I just returned from a brief trip, 400 miles round trip. Fuel prices varied $1.00 per gallon within the first 100 miles. I am definitely moving forward with auxiliary fuel tank. Adding an additional 50 to 60 gallons to go along with the factory 48 gallon tank. I have already weighed the truck (loaded with full tank of 48 gallons) as well as truck and 5’er to insure I have sufficient payload capacity and proper load distribution. With my plans for the next three years, $1,000 investment will definitely pay me back, financially as well as in convenience

When I made plans for our 6 month trip in 2022 I included having a 90 gallon aux fuel tank built. Cost me $525 and another $115 for misc hardware and pump. With enough fuel to travel 800 miles I was able to cross high fuel price states like IL, IN and CA paying for the tank pretty fast. Pulling my Monty with a gas engine the tank helped on fuel costs over the 10k miles we traveled.

When I decided I needed more fuel, I replaced the OEM tank with one double it's size. That gave me the benefit of lots more fuel, without loosing space in the truck bed. Also, all the gauges functioned the same way and no need to transfer fuel.

Just had a 62 gallon tank installed replacing the 36 gallon tank!

Hate fuel stops, and now fewer stops. I'm happy!

Where did you get the fuel tank, what model? Did you install yourself; what does it entail? Thanks.

seasure1, I also have a Chevy but my old one was a 2004 Chevy 2500. Only 25 gallon tank (diesel). First trip I drove from near Cody, Wy to Rawlins. I thought there were 2 towns on the way for a fill up. First town was only about 50 miles so I went to the 2nd. It had 1 restaurant and about 10 houses and no fuel. When I filled up in Rawlins, it took 24.5 (!!!!) gallons. Immediately when I got home I put in a 52 ga. tank (I think that is right). Much less worry after that!
My new one has the 36 gallon tank, but we try to drive only about 250-325 miles most days, so I can just fill up each stop. Some days I would like a 62 gallon tank tho - LOL.

First mod on my 2018 F350.

Titan 55 gallon tank. Fits where the OEM tank was, and it takes no bedspace.
It was not cheap, but I am glad I did it.

So out of curiosity, where might one go to upgrade the fuel tank? I have a GMC 2020 3500 diesel with the standard 36 gal. I expect my local dealer may be costly.
Is the replacement plastic or metal?

I just looked up Titan fuel tank dealers.
Guy was in Boise, just a little ways from me.
Tank is plastic, as is the factory one. AND, it fits in the factory location.

I had my local dealer install an S&B 62 gallon tank, I had it installed by the dealer. Like others have said it was not cheap $1700 installed. Titan makes a similiar tank the replaces the factory original. Why did I by S&B? Their fuel capacity was 7 gallons more.
Costs were similiar.

I typically do all my own work. However I can say that around me there are a few places that do work like this. They are generally referred to as truck and trailer centers. Places that sell trailers; do truck modifications like snow plows and spreaders and sell truck caps and accessories will typically provide these services. Also, local independent truck service facilities

I gave $850 for a 70 gallon aluminum tank that fits in the front of the bed. My factory tank is 48 gallons already so I wasn’t going to get much more under the bed.

I feel your pain, I am disappointed in my trucks range, I seem to have about 5 gallons of diesel that I can't use, so the 32 gallon tank advertised is only 27 -28 useable. I am looking at getting the Tidy Tank Plus 50 gallon, 58"x16"x16", which fits in front of my 5th wheel hitch, & I can still close my Bak Flip hard folding tonneau. It's about $600 CAD. My wife & I are planning on some remote northern travel in the next few years, & I am sure not going to do it with 28 gallons

Our Ram came with a 50 gal fuel tank, but when the DW snapped the pic of fuel under $3 per gallon I was sure wishing I could have taken better advantage of the price. Would like to traverse some states altogether without having to fuel up. The research continues.....

I just installed a 60 gallon tank replacing the factory tank, plus a small tank in the bed. I carry 96 gallons. It is already saving money.

This my setup they are actually race car fuel cells 32 gallons each so 64 gallons combined with the 36 gallons the truck has a total of 100 gallons so I'm good, if I put the aux tanks sideways I can fit three across I won't be needing that much fuel or want to carry that much. They are strapped in instead of bolted so if ever the truck flipped or was hit hard they would just go flying yet still stay self contained since they are fuel cells.

Back in 2014 I replaced my factory tank with a Transfer Flow 61 gallon tank and also had a 50 gal aux tank installed in the bed. They are both metal tanks and They have been working great. Went to Transfer Flow's website recently and found out that they no longer make replacement tanks for GM trucks. They still make them for Ford, Ram and Toyota Tundra's. I contacted them to find out why. Was told they quit making them because there was no demand for replacement tanks for GM/GMC trucks...I find that hard to believe that there is more of a demand for a Toyota Tundra replacement tank than for GM/GMC trucks

Put a Transfer Flow 37 gallon in bed several years ago. Has a pump on it and module ties it into gas gauge circuit. Automatically transfers to main tank when gauge gets to half. Shuts off again just below full. Repeats process until aux tank empty. Low profile tank so bed cover fits over top and reversed”L” shape so room for tool box and floor jack in recess in the front.

I added a 40 gal RDS combo fuel tank to my 2019 Chevy dually which with the factory 36 gallon gives me lots of range. I don't use the gravity flow part as I added an electric pump which I can switch on/ off from the driver's seat. I have never regretted it & in fact my son is adding a 60 gallon tank to his new GMC 3500 that will arrive within a few weeks.
