Tank Flush

I de-winterized the trailer today and started checking all of the connections, and sure enough I found a leak. It took awhile to find it but it is the pressure valve for the tank flush. When the water is on water is going into the tank you can hear it but also water is coming out of the top of the pressure valve, is the valve bad or not enough pressure to keep the pressure valve sealed to the top?

Only you know what your hooked up to and how much pressure it has, so can't really answer the question.

If you got any type of reasonable pressure going into it and it still won't seat, chances are good its stuck or its a bad valve.

I know I have good pressure, I just don't think the valve is sealing correctly. Can an after market device be put in it's place?

Those things should lock closed at almost any minimum pressure. Sounds like its just bad. They are cheap enough. I would just replace it with the same part.

Is the RV store the only place to get one?

I can't answer that, as I haven't ever tried to look for one. I'm not sure if a Home Depot or Lowes would carry something like that.

Why does it even have this in there? Why can it not be just a straight thru connection? I looks to me that it serves 2 purposes, 1. Prevent back flow. 2. Allow both sides of the line to drain so it does not need to be winterized.

You just answered your question - the first being critical. The second is only a convenient result of the design.

I would not think pressure would be a problem. The device said it is rated for 125 PSI. I am waiting for a call back from the dealer to get a replacement. I am thinking that even if I replace this it could happen again because the part looks pretty cheaply made, and after I caught the leak it had gotten all the way over to the charger. So I am thinking of connecting the 2 lines together with a back flow preventer in the middle, and a 2 way valve on each side. When it is time do winterize just open up the valves and the water should just flow back out like it does now. I actually had to cut a hole in the wall inside the cabinet to get to the valve and will just put one of those fancy covers on to cover it.
