We fly the American flag high with pride! We also fly our Marine Corps flag and Navy flag with pride as well since we are both retired military. We leave the political flags for others. We have never been restricted on flags or height of our flags flying.

Flag flying

First, any campground that tries to tell me what flag I can and can not fly, can......! As my signature says, I am a veteran and fought for our freedom, such as it is. While I can agree about some of the political flags (since they are based on a personal preference) there should not be a problem with "generic" flags. We fly old glory at the top (as it is required and should be) then the MIA/POW flag below that, then the Vietnam Veteran flag after that, and finally the Navy flag blow that. And yes, they are lit at night. I have always had nothing but positive comments about our flags. I can guess which campground that was, but shall remain quiet.

As an old southern boy I think not flying flags is a good thing. Some people will display flags that will on purpose offend others and we don’t need that. We are divided enough let’s try to unite our country. It’s the only one we have.

The flag policies/restrictions are a growing trend in campground management. It’s private property and they make rules as they will.

I look at it from the campground owner’s perspective rather than my own. They have enough to worry about operating the business without policing confrontations over flags. Along with all the other rules they have to keep things running as smoothly as possible, then add another rule limiting flags. And rather than try to specify what flag is acceptable and what is not, simply limit it to the US flag. Sure, there will be people who don’t like it. And those people can go elsewhere. Most will not care or will not care enough to stay away. And if someone had a problem with the US flag I would not want them anyway.

As the OP stated, the American Flag was the only flag allowed.

I'm fine with that. The opposite policy would cause me to rethink using that place.

We stayed at a KOA that had an individual flyer they were giving out. They had a long list of "acceptable" flags. Every flag was listed except of course the Confederate flag. Would of been easier to just state "No Confederate Flags".

I have often seen a wide range of high flying flags, pennants and wind socks etc , some national, regional, collegiate, political or just decorative, at many different types of campground. I wondered how widespread these restrictions were, and how people feel about that.

I think we'll probably see more and more of this as some of the flags, especially the political ones have "triggered" a few people and caused issues. Same reason schools are returning to a uniform or uniform dress code.

I've never flown a flag at a campground but have absolutely no problem with those who wish to do so. Those who are "triggered" by a flag are the real problem.

This is what we fly and haven't had a problem. Yet. Not sure why the pic posted sideways.

I suppose certain flags could offend others. The confederate and rainbow flags among others would fit that category. I've seen flags that I don't care to see but I don't get riled about it. If a campground bans flag waving then I don't get riled about that either. It is their park and should enjoy the freedom to run it as they see fit.

I think a campground with campers sporting various flags adds a certain interest to the atmosphere. RVers are generally outgoing folks. Flags are an expression of their interest or attitude. Flags can be inviting or a warning to others depending upon how it is received. Many times the subject matter of a flag is a way to start a conversation with a stranger. I say fly 'em.

Campground owners are just trying to make a living. Anything that makes people uncomfortable is likely to cause some people to make other choices.

I would prefer people keep their "causes and politics" to themselves. We're totally fine with everything else and actually enjoy them.

This is Thousand Trails policy and one we totally agree with:

The following flags are allowed to be displayed at your site and throughout the campground/resort, American, Canadian, Military, including Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, POW, MIA, and veterans, sports and decorative flags such as holiday, seasonal or garden.

Good common sense rules for what you can fly.

Do you really think people would use common sense?

Thus the policy, which by the way I totally support.
