The limiter is the GVWR. When using tires with more than 3500# of load capacity on 7000# axles the remainder is called "load capacity reserves". RVIA has insured, with their load capacity reserve recommendation for tires on RV trailers to be 10%; I've always recommended 12% - 15%.

RV trailer manufacturer's very seldom use axles with load capacities beyond the axles GAWR limit because it invites overloading.

When I had IS installed we opted for 8k axles. Our Sailuns already had the rating to support this choice. I opted to change the wheels too. None of this changes the labeled GVW, however we are every pound of that weight. That coupled with the previous suspension failure I experienced this was my choice. While the config mathematically supports more than what should be the weight of the trailer it supports the dynamic force changes exerted on the suspension. Think apparent vs true wind.

Now that makes more sense, I see the reasoning, with 7K axles I could not.

It also did not change the trailer's certified GVWR or GAWRs. Only the vehicle manufacturer or a certified vehicle modifier have that authority.

Replacement tires are selected to support the load capacity the OE tires supported. Therefor, they are not required to support the load of the individual axle's certified load capacity.

Tire load capacity reserves are figured from the vehicle certified GAWRs maximum load capacity.

(Example provided on request).

What is everyone using to fill the tires to 110PSI? I can't seem to find anywhere that will fill them. All the gas stations, Firestone, Discount tire, Goodyear etc... that I've stopped at only will fill to 90PSI. Are there portables I can get and carry? thanks

No, it's about minimums and maximums. It's also a sworn statement to the DOT and all consumers that all minimum safety standards were complied with at the time of certification. It aids consumers in their decisions to maintain that minimum safety standard for that vehicle.

I carry a portable compressor. I have had no problem using Les Schwab to fill before I picked up our Via.

I carry a Fini Advanced 3.0 Gal 150 Max PSI compressor that I purchased at Menards to keep my 3790RD tires inflated to 110 PSI.

I carry a Porter Cable from Home Depot also for 99.00 . I have a larger Ingersol Rand compressor that i use at home. I've never had a problem with Discount Tire pumping 110 psi in my tires. You just need to show them the tires and wheels are rated for 110 psi.
