New Sailuns New Rims?

We have a 2016 Montana 3711 upgrading tires to Sailun 637 ST 235/80R.
Questioning if I should also upgrade stock rims because of increase in tire pressure. Haven’t gotten an answer from Keystone yet. Hope someone has info on this. Thanks!!

Sam,

A 2016 should have 110 PSI rims. Crawl under it and look for the 110 stamp on the back side of the wheels to confirm.

Some 2010's have 110# rims and others don't, but after that they all do.

I would consider changing the rims only because two of the spoke style rims on my 2014 cracked and caused quick air loss. I know there are 1.000's of these rims on rv's but for me to have two on the same rv to crack were enough for me to change to aluminum modular wheels. These don't have the spokes so i would think they would be stronger though they are rated the same as factory wheels. Also Mobile Suites have the mod wheels and they weigh quite a bit more than our Montana's.

I purchased 4 new rims from wally world About 60 bucks each white spoke steel like what was on it then. when I purchased my Sailun tires. Mine were 80 psi rims. But my Monty is mega old and hardly used. Still haven't had it out yet during quarantine.

I also had a rim leak where the spoke was welded internally. Tire shop put in a tub of water and showed me the bubbles where the spoke met the outer rim.

Not entirely sure, but IMHO, I had to remove rime to see the 110 psi stamp on back side of wheel spook. I know my '17 305RL had 110 psi wheels and spare was a steel wheel (easily handle same). Another good give away to wheel rating is if the valve stem is steel.

We upgraded to the setup you reference about 1 1/2 years ago (2015 3610RL). I actually liked the style of the newer spoke mags so although pricey I ordered the tires and wheels from Keystone and had them shipped to my dealer. Had them take to a local tire shop and had them balanced and then installed. BTW don't forget the spare which I replaced also so the purchase was for 5 tires and wheels.

Your wheels should be good up to 110lb.

Even though our OEM rims were rated for 110psi when we upgraded our Sailuns we upgraded the wheels to take advantage of higher tire weight bearing rating.

3750 to 4200 per wheel

NOTE: You got 7000# vehicle certified axles? If so any rim that will withstand 110 PSI and provide 3500# of load capacity is acceptable.

If you were getting new tires and rims you should have made the jump to 17.5s and really put tire and wheel worries behind you.

I can't imagine tire or wheel issues or worries with a 4080, 4400 G rated tire , running on these 110 psi rated wheels, it usually always a tire issue. Rim issues are rare.

I ran G rated tires on my 2008 Montana OE rims for 10 years , they were at one time supposed to have been rerated, and sent stickers to verify 110 psi and many switched to the G rated tires, me included , only to find out later they changed their minds, If I remember right, that was Tredit. Never an issue with those wheels.

Rim issues may be rare but i had 2 rims crack in 3 years. The spoke wheels are very popular but the weak link is the spoke. I changed to the modular wheels to get away from the spokes 3 years ago and so far so good. I might have just gotten a bad batch of wheels but 2 wheels going bad was enough for me. Fortunately for me the tpms picked up 1 of the bad rims and the other tire went flat overnight. There are a lot of chug holes on the highway just waiting to test these wheels.

I see your reasoning, although I think its more about the tires. Maybe I was lucky with my spoke OE wheels on the 08

3750 to 4200 per wheel

Lets see if I got this right, we have wheels rated for 3750, covering axles that are rated for 7K, so far so good ? Thats 7500 we can go on those wheels. Now we put on G rated tires rated for 4040 or 4400, correct ? Now we go ,and put on a wheel rated for 4200, that the axles can't cover, only rated for 7K not 8400, plus we got a pin weight of at least 20%, even lowering the amount of weight even more on the tires ,and wheels. Maybe I missed something ?
