DW = wife with whatever descriptive adjective starting with D you want to use (many use dear)
W/D = washer/dryer

Looks like Ford is the king of the hill this year. I am looking for a new TV and I think I will wait until the 2021 Fords come out. I am a little skeptical of buying a job one. The GM trucks have 10speed this year that is designed in the house while purchasing the rights from Allison to use their logo. That makes the GMC job one this year as well. Both Ford and GM designed and build their 10 speeds this year. I favor Ford over the others because everything is designed and built in house. That to me is an advantage. Ram is a nice truck, but they designed very little of themselves while relying on OEM too much IMHO.

To each their own, but... Ford recently has gone through more engines and other major design changes than I change underwear in a week. Ever since they offed the 7.3 its been a search for something that works. I am not brand loyal at all. But one thing Ram takes advantave of is using time tested powertrains with their diesels. The Cummins/Aisin is the best on the road. Now their fit and finish isn't nearly on par with Ford or GM. Too bad GM or Ford didn't go with with this combo.

I’m going to say Dear Wife and Washer Dryer. Keep the raging conversation going. Still trying to figure out what the answer to to the initiating question is.

Ok. Thanks for those emails It means what I thought but I just could not imagine actually putting that in the weight overload calculation. I’d be terrified my DW might see it.

There was no original question to answer.

I believe that it is still true that with RAM trucks they have web site where you can enter your VIN and find out the exact rates for your truck.

If you been around the different boards I comment on this all the time. Any of these trucks GM Ford or Ram will work perfectly with almost any RV out there. They are all great trucks but Ram doesn’t slip behind the others in any way. The Cummins is just a fabulous package. In my profession we install the 6.7 in many different applications. To say that the other two have an advantage because they do it in house? I’m left scratchin my head. I would buy either of the two in a second. GM is our for me as I don’t t like the interior. I went to get a Ford but they couldn’t match Ram’s prices and the fit and finish on my last two Rams have been excellent. My 3500 is getting 19-20 mpg in mixed driving and 11.5 towing a 14,500 pound trailer with a truck that weighs 9000 lbs.

The motor is smooth and powerful. But way different than Ford. Ford’s like a stud racing horse and Ram is like your prize bull.

Either one of them will tow half weight effortlessly.

I’m a Cummins fanboy. Their engineers Can change an engine to meet your application in minutes. I’ve watched it. The Aisin is perfect for my application, plenty of gears and in the right one when I need it.

I put some 295/70/R18’s on it for 4080lbs a piece versus 3640 lbs stock. I am close to the GVWR of the truck because My extra fuel tank and the b&w hitch.

To each his own but your kidding yourself if you think Ram holds the back seat on anything especially drivetrain. Not saying the others aren’t great trucks, they are all three neck and neck. You almost can’t make a bad choice.

Peace

Every body has the best truck. Thanks is why they bought it. If there had been a better truck they would have bought it.

I am of the belief that if one of the three had an overall advantage we would all be driving the same truck. It's all about personal preference, Finish, options, price, what may dad drove, what I work with or whether we are just plane a Ford, GM or Dodge person.

Personally I didn't look at the specs, I bought a DRW GM 3500 and don't worry about the numbers, some day I may even weigh it and run the numbers just out of curiosity.

Yes people get all bent out of shape over this. If the truck works forget about it and enjoy your truck and camper.

What’s the “DW and W/D”?
Thanks.

Dear wife, Washer Dryer

Well the intent was not to go with which brand of truck was best.

The intent was to show how how the line for SRW or DRW was getting thinner.

Dick did bring up a good point about tire availability for SRW and a 12400 GVWR

If insurance or registration regulations can catch up with the times, it'd be nice to see a 350 SRW rated closer to 13,000. It wouldn't be hard to achieve if they upped the tire size to LT295. It all comes down to the axles/springs/tires. The brakes are the same for the F250 or F350 SRW/DRW. The pickup frames are all the same section modulus (10.7 cu in) w/ 8 cross members. The F450 pickup could easily be rated at 16,500 like the chassis cab. The F350 DRW could be rated closer to 15k just by reprinting the sticker. All the components are already there. The magic of the the 14k ceiling on pickups should be updated especially for personal use.

Ford subbed their diesel engines out until 2011, worst was International. Since the 6.7 Powerstroke their diesels have been excellent. I put just under 50,000 miles on one every year, have for years and no problems. Cummins is a very good engine but nothing overcomes it is in a Ram, which I personally would never own again. All 3 US majors build very capable trucks and it comes down to personal choice.

If the big 3 wanted to get a SRW truck into the realm of the DRW they would go to 19.5” wheels and tires which are what lots of MH’s run along with F-450’s and F-550’s. I would have ordered them as an option on my DRW Ford if offered. Here is an example Michelin 245/70R19.5 rated for 4960 lbs in single tire. That is an H rated tire and would be good for a combined 9940 lbs for your front or rear end and with all four tires rated at A combined 19,880 lbs for the rubber alone.
It could easily be done. An aftermarket company named Rickson made 19.5” forged aluminum rims to fit the axle bolt pattern back in the old 1999 and up Superduties. Some people were buying DRW trucks and then the Rickson wheels to get away from DRW’s.

I've seen full sized vans in dually. It looks like the extra wheels are on the inside, not outside of the regular wheel. I would think they could do that on trucks.

They could but that would take up a lot of bed space. The working people need to put a sheet of plywood in their trucks.
