Truck break downs
Hi all, Just curious, For those of you who had tow vehicle trouble while towing. What did you do with your 5ver when the truck was being repaired? Reason I ask, We had trouble a couple of years ago. Luckily we were able to get off the interstate and into a gas station / market. Goodsam did not want to tow the 5ver but did tow the truck to the shop. They told me the 5ver was in a safe place however the market owner was not going to let us leave it there nor did we want to.

Have it towed to a better place even if you must foot the bill.

Interesting. Goodsam towed us a dealership, then towed us and the fiver to a nearby campground, in accordance with the policy coverage.

Tow company sent two trucks. One loaded the truck and took it to local dealer. Second was a dually pickup with 5th wheel hitch and took the 5er to KOA, pulled it into a site, waited while I hooked up electric and started A/C, and took me to dealer where I got a rent car covered by warranty.

I wish I was as lucky as BB_TX. My turbo hose blew off June 30 - Start of july 4 week. It happened on I70 by Dillon (near Breckenridge) Co. Coasted into a scenic overlook. Good Sam called every park within 15-20 miles (they said) and not one open site. Left Monty parked on overlook and ended up getting the truck towed to repair. They had a cancelation and got me in the next day, but I had already canceled my rv site near Rocky Mtn Park and reserved a motel for 5 days (no refund)!!
There were no rentals anywhere and no real cabs. Had to rent an airport limo to go back and forth to the repair place at $50 a pop for a 13 mile ride!

When my 2005 sicko imploded, Ford sent two trucks. One for the Ford which they towed to the local dealer and the second to tow the Montana to where ever I wanted to go nearby.

We have CAA or AAA in the USA that also covers the towing of the 5'er if required, its a little more money but worth the peace of mind. Thankfully haven't needed to use it but it is there if required.

Find yourself a road service plan that will tow both your TV and RV.

Good sam will tow the 5ver if you are stranded on the road, However we were in a gas station and was their way out of towing the camper.

My GEICO road service sent a tow for the truck and another for the FW. We were only 15 miles from home so by my choice I had the FW taken back to storage. The driver didn't have any tools so, fortunately, I had the necessary tools to detach the capture plate from my pinbox.

So if your fueling up at a fuel station and your truck fails to start because your off the highway they refuse?
That’s a cheap shot by Good Sam.Any way they can screw you they are good at that.

If you call for a tow on your 5th be sure to let them know if you have an Anderson hitch. You may find yourself waiting for the tow only to find out they can't help you when they do arrive.

Hi Mmwtdh
You may want to state which Anderson hitch you are referring to I looked at one recently that wouldn’t hinder towing the entire unit with the proper wrecker.

Only time we had an engine problem that took overnight to fix, the Lexington, KY garage gave us power and water to stay in their parking lot. The tow truck we had was large enough to double tow our truck and the Monty. We rode in the tow truck.

Having broken down several times with my 2003 F350 diesel, I know the difficulty in finding a tow company that will take the 5th wheel to a campground. My last breakdown was in Stockton, California. No problem getting the truck towed, but no one around had the proper hook up to tow the 5th wheel. After many hours I located a tow company that tows big rigs and was able to pull me into a campground for $300. Fortunately I had Good Sam, AAA and an extended warranty so eventually got reimbursed. I assume class A doesn't have the same problem. Probably others
