Entry step lights

I'm looking to add an entry step light to my Monty. I don't recall seeing any from the factory. Has anyone done this mod and if so, any advice on install would be greatly appreciated. I do plan to power the lights with the porch light switch.

Thx!

Not sure on the HC models, but on our rig, turning on the door side scare light also turns on the light above the pin box as well as a light at the steps which is mounted behind the steps.

On our 2019, we have an option for "Safety" lights in the panel inside. This turns on a light behind the steps as well as under the rear and bedroom slides and the pin box. Not sure about the 2014 or HC models.

If you don't have step lights, I would add battery powered (solar) motion sensor lights. That way you don't have to mess with wiring.

Thanks. I for sure don't have any lights under the step area. I thought about adding some LEDs with a remote to turn them on and off. I think I can get power to the step area pretty easily. Was hoping maybe someone did a fresh install and might have some pointers.

I added lights. I ran wires into the factory porch switch. Having lights sure does help.

I think my 2016 3791 is wired wrong because my step light does not come on with the porch light but does come on with the passenger side spotlight (or whatever the beacon is up front & high). Really dumb and irritating. Sure wish I could fix it...

My unit has a step light from the factory. If I remember correctly it was wired to come on with the scare lights which made absolutely no sense. Upon inspection of the wiring behind the panel I determined you could just swap wires around and make that light come on with any other switch you wanted. So why are we wired it to come on with the pin box light which makes more sense to me

Back before there were step lights, many used a motion detector light from Harbor Freight. It hung on the back of the steps and illuminated a large area. No unnecessary porch light, scare lights, or pin box lights needed. Plus no drain of the RV batteries when boondocking. https://www.harborfreight.com/lighti...ght-95276.html

The wire to the step light is gray and yellow strip. I move the wire from the scare light switch to the porch light switch. Quick fix!
