weird

so i still struggle with my CO detectors.
my Monty is in an well insulated heated building.
this building addition the RV is in has no heating devices in it.
it is passively conditioned being attached to the big shop which has natural gas radiant heaters.

it is plugged in to shore power.
there are no devices running other than the fridge.
my rear compartment (12v) continues to alarm.
i put a fan in front of it and it seemed to keep it from alarming.
but,,,
now the forward compartment 9v alarm is chirping.

i guess i will go get a CO monitor and see what it does in the Big shop.

any suggestions?

my dog will go apecrazy if he is in there and the alarms go off....

Can I suggest that you add you trailer information in your profile/signature so we know what unit you're talking about?

If you're plugged into power I would have to suspect low batteries. From Google

Usually, the most common reason for an RV carbon monoxide detector to keep going off is because it has drained or low-power batteries. This can be recognized by a beep signal every 15 to 30 seconds.

I can't imagine what would cause CO if everything is off.

If plugged in to shore power, batteries should be more than 12.4. That is only 80%.
Outside chance you may have a bad battery or two. I am familiar with off-gassing of bad batteries causing CO detectors to sound in cruising size boats.
You should be able to google that. Never heard of it happening in an RV, but I’m sure it could. Just a thought, Good luck.

Any chance the detectors are over 5 years old?
They chirp for low battery and old age.
They are supposedly only good for 5 years. Their may be a date code stamped on the back.

You might want to check the natural gas radiant heaters for possible CO which could be the cause of the CO detector alarming.

You say they run on 9 volt batteries? I would toss um in the garbage and replace with another brand.

And Dutch, we've already been down the fart road

Sorry apparently I didn't fully read your post. If both including the 12 volt hard wired co detector is tripping while in storage and not being used I would be concerned. I would remove the LPG tanks and shut off everything. For both a 9 volt battery operated and a 12 volt hard wired co detector to trip either both batteries are low, both units are faulty or there is the presence of co.

Reads to me like you absolutely have the presence of CO.

One detector alarming until you put a fan in front of it blowing the air away?
Then a different detector alarming now that you have the fan blowing the air toward it?

google search :

It was determined that lead batteries do not emit carbon monoxide. They do, however, emit hydrogen. It was also noted that carbon monoxide detectors will activate when exposed to high amounts of hydrogen. Hydrogen gas like carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas.

Can a charging battery set off a carbon monoxide alarm?
Many carbon monoxide alarms and sensors encounter cross-interfering gases that cause “false positives” or false alarms. The presence of hydrogen can generate false alarms for many carbon monoxide alarms or false/positive measurement readings on some combustion analyzer test instruments.

so now down the "is hydrogen gas harmful" rabbit hole

I have a CO detector with a digital read out. So it you have CO prevent you know exactly how much. I found it on Amazon where you find everything else.

I was going to mention that as it crossed my mind. If your batteries are off gassing that much they may be overcharging. And they should be in an enclosed vented box. You have a smart charger that shouldn't be boiling the batteries.

Battery vapors, swiffer wet jet fluid, new vinyl smell, just about anything will set them off. They only take so many hits then they're done. My Dealership killed mine warming up a new awning fabric.
