Protecting slide awnings

Hi all,

We may spend some time this fall in snowy weather. I wonder if any of you have tricks to minimize the snow load stress on the slide awnings.

I don’t know if this would work but I had thought about getting some old but usable car tire inner tubes, inflating them and sliding them under the awnings to help offset the snow load.

Thoughts/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Stacked pool noodles might be reasonable fix - tide cords on end to pull out

I use three over-sized pool noodles zip-tied together in a pyramid shape with attached cord to pull out. Fits perfect to prevent rain from pooling. Has a cord attached for removal, but have to get the step ladder out to install.

Thanks for your responses and idea of using pool noodles. Do either of you have a pic which shows how the noodles look when in place? Thanks again.

I'll try to get you a pic. But its basically two side-by-side on the bottom row, and the third laying in the valley between the two on the bottom. Looks like a three circle pyramid looking at it from the end (what you would see looking into the area between the top of your slide and the bottom of the topper).

Is the topper being stretched? Isn't there adequate excess material on the awning spool so that the snow might un-roll more material without damaging it?

On mine, you can see a slight bulge where the noodles are. Without the noodles, the rain pools on top of the topper and sags. It's enough to keep water from pooling on the topper. I've never used it in snow, so not sure what it would do.

The awning material sags with snow weight. I am trying to find a trick so the material doesn’t get stretched and then tear

It also sags when water collects, but it runs off with the pool noodles. Don't think the snow will run off, but the noodles should keep it from sagging. They are cheap, give it a try. I order the jumbo noodles from Amazon, they are a little bigger in diameter. I think these are the ones I ordered.

I'm thinking inflatable pool air mattress. Stores easy.

Been pondering in my head for some time on how to install pool noodles from the ground without a ladder.

Thinking if the leading end of noodles were cut to a taper to easily slip under topper that the installation might be accomplished with a 1" pieces of PVC with a 90 on the end that could be used to push it in place. make sure to run a cord thru noodles so it could be pulled out easily

Food for thought

Not sure you will be able to install without a ladder. I keep a step ladder hanging on my rear ladder, not that hard to take down and use. I do have a rope on the noodles so I don't have to get the ladder back down to remove.

We camp every year in Park City to ski. I buy inflatable pool rafts/lounges from Walmart. Get the silver and clear ones, they are better.

Inflate and shove under slide toppers. Takes 2 rafts per slide. Never a problem and so easy to store when snow is gone.

I use a sling shot and fishing line. Works quick and easy. No ladder no fuss.
