I have the same trailer and same truck my truck is a 2022. I would run in tow haul mode. As other people have mentioned it changes the shift pattern. It will shift at a higher rpm between gears. This makes it eiser on the transmission. I would rather give up some gas milage over changing a transmission.

I wonder how extra much fuel tow/haul uses.

Probably not a measurable amount; certainly not enough to pay for a transmission and if I was worried about mileage I would not be driving this rig. Like most, I use tow/haul whenever hooked up. First press of exhaust brake turns it on, second press puts it in auto mode. I believe auto mode tries to maintain whatever the speed is when you release the accelerator/brake; cruise control also comes into play. This is what the manual says:
Note: This feature offers smoother, less
aggressive engine braking during downhill
descents. It may not apply braking if the
vehicle speed is not increasing, although it
will apply full engine braking force when
needed to prevent acceleration. The system
automatically activates the engine brake
and, if necessary, downshifts the
transmission to lower gears to not exceed
your vehicle's set speed when the brake or
accelerator were last released.

Tow/haul also adjusts the shift points to keep engine rpms up in the better power ranges to keep the engine from lugging when accelerating and going up grades. If any thing I would expect the mileage to be a little better because of that.

The ford 10 speed also has "adaptive learning technology", maybe others do too. The tcm learns our driving habits and supposedly adjusts for the way we drive. I just returned literally 20 minutes ago from my dealer for the reprogramming recall on the tcm and ecm many of you have most likely gotten in the mail. We had an informative discussion on how my tranny thinks and remembers my driving habits. (I'm not making this sh!t up) anyway, the gist of it was, when towing, use the tow/haul everytime. It makes it easier for it to remember. Or so I'm told, and I actually believe these guys, they are a commercial Ford truck center only and they are reputed to be the best around.

They will be flashing my PCM & TCM tomorrow. So far, I have not heard any bad things about the recall. Supposed to be an emissions thing and enabling the NOx sensor pre-heat.

Yep, that's it. I barely had time to go next store to the donut shop and buy a box of donut holes for the techs when my phone rang and they said "all set come and get it". Simple. It actually was noticeable when I left. When they flash it, it erases the learned memory. He said it will re-learn my normal habits and tow/haul habits in short order.
