re:Hunter Thermostat
I installed the Hunter today and all is working well.
JP,Brad,Ed and Bobby, thanks
to all of you for the help.
Ray
I have a '05 Mountaineer that I want to replace the analog thermostat
with a Hunter 42995B digital stat.
Has anyone done this and if so, how easy or difficult was it.
Thanks
Ray

JP, thank you, that's what I was looking for. I was surprised that the low speed fan wire gets hooked up since I will only use high speed, but again that's why I asked the question because I WOULD have done it wrong.
Thanks Again

If you want "High" fan ONLY you connect the orange and blue wires to the Hunter terminal marked "G", and the fan will run at High Fan when called for (configured this way there is NO Low Fan).

Just to help with the confusion - if you want to retain the selectable fan speeds, you have to add a switch to the thermostat. Without the additional switch, you have to figure out what speed you want to use and pre-wire it that way.
I ended up adding a small microswitch from Radio Shack to the side casing on the new thermostat (2003 Montana).

I have never used the low speed so I didn't think I would need it now.
I sounds like maybe you guys do, an I missing out on something. I remember reading one time about the A/C and not recommending using low speed, so I have always left it on high.
What are the advantages of having a low speed.
Thanks Again

Just a little quieter. If its not that hot out, it gives you some options other than the full blast. The new electronic thermostats Dometic went to actually cycle between speeds as necessary.

I did my Mountaineer and put in the switch to do high & low fan speeds (cost about $1.99 @ Radio Shack). Had to pull the inside cover off of the A/C as wire colors coming to old Thermostat were not color coded correctly. Looked like Keystone had used phone wire from A/C to Thermo. But really like the way it works. Can actually know what temp were are at.

A problem that you might run into with using the low speed is the coils icing up in the a/c unit. The fan speed needs to move a certain amount of air across the coils to prevent they from freezing.

I agree with the old Fogie. This summer with the a/c on and low fan speed the coils did ice up.Does not cool good that way.

Just did the Hunter mod as my analog thermostat was acting erratic and I did not like it anyway. Tried it out last night and SO much better. Thanks to all for the input on how to do it. It really is a piece of cake!
