Truck hitch
I have a 2016 2500 GMC with the 6 1/2' bed. We are in the process of purchasing a 2007 Keystone 2955RL Montana. Do I need a slider hitch or with the front of the trailer tapered back clear the cab? Ed

Safest bet is to get a slider

Most have a slider when using the shortbed. Some need it and some don't. Better to have it.

How much is it worth to lessen the "worry factor"? I really will take all the help I can get. The PullRite SuperGlide was on my truck when I bought it as a newby and not knowing there was such a creature. I like the "auto" feature to help protect me from myself. I have seen several popped rear windows on some who "did not need sliders".

On this forum you will hear many say they have a slider and never use it.
You will also hear many say they would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I have a 2005 2955RL with a short bed and I believe I need it. I also have seen several broken windows and crushed cabs. I bought mine used and installed myself and am very happy.

I had a Pullrite slider on my 6 1/2 ft Ford and loved every minute of it...so get one..it is automatic.....and by the way..I have one for sale since I now own a Truck with an 8 ft bed...you would probably have to buy the under rails to fit you truck...I have the super rail system as well...will sell cheap...it is in excellent condition....

Really depends on how much you're willing to chance. Older Montana's are not as friendly to SB pickups. I had a Curt Q20 slider trying to be conscientious and pulverized the back window of my 2015 F-250 in a sharp forward u-turn. This is where a Pull-Rite would have been a better choice for me.

A 2007 doesn't have the rounded front corners of the newer Montana's and if you have a sliding back window you're looking at at least a grand to replace it. I'm one of the ones who never used my slider but because it was almost rusted in place I bought a Pullrite this summer. Today I came upon a really bad wreck on a two lane road (box truck ran a stop sign and got hit by two semi's going in opposite directions at highway speed) LEO asked if there was anyway I could get turned around. He couldn't see how since we're 57' front to back. Got it done and he was surprised, but I was glad I had the slider.

I hear lots of folks say "better to get the slide" and I do have one on my short bed (Reese 16k) but I have never used the slide on the two montanas I've owned.

I have a Reese manually operated slide. Today when I was trying to leave the campground I was hemmed in by a class A that decided to park perpendicular instead of parallel as my trailer was. I struggled to put my hitch in rear position but if I didn't have a slider, I would still be waiting for the motor home guy to move. An automatic like the PullRite is the best way to go, however you can save a few bucks and go with a manual. Just remember that if you even THINK you may need more clearance, get out and move it into maneuvering position.
