Magic Chef range

We have found that the oven temperature regulator seems to not regulate properly. The temperature range between when the burner goes off and when it restarts seems to be greater than it should be. This effects the baking temperatures since the oven isn't at the desired temperature very much. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a means to adjust the regulator?

What we have done is to hang an oven thermometer on the baking rack.

We have not had a oven in ANY camper that kept a constant temp..we will not order one on the new camper.

I found that our oven is off by 100 degrees. So if I need 350 I set it for 250 and really keep an eye on what is cooking. Oven is a pain in the neck.

Our first use of the Magic Chef oven showed that the thermostat was not even close to the set temperature. The oven would not heat beyond about 200F with the setting above 450F. Calls to Keystone and to Maytag ( use the RV product direct number 800-544-5513 to save time) resulted in them FedExing a replacement thermostat control valve overnight. I installed it and now the oven heats to above the set temperature and will regulate itself. Cudos to Maytag customer service.

But, we will use gkbutler 's approach and use an oven thermometer in the future. (or just use the convection oven when we have AC hookup). This is still more convienent than my old Coleman folding oven on top of the old white gas stove!

We don't have enough baking experience to know if this works well or not, but we found a rectangular pizza stone that is an almost-perfect fit for the oven. The theory is that the pizza stone's thermal mass will tend to even out the temperature fluctuations of the oven. It also provides some "insulation" to protect against the bottom of the biscuits being burned by the proximity of the oven flame.

Again, we are not confident that the stone provides a solution, but it makes us think that we are making an improvement (whether we are or not).

Where did you find the pizza stone? Now that I know I can leave the pilot lit, I plan to use the oven more. (If Ed will let me in the kitchen - it is his domain.) All I've seen the stones in is round. The rectangle sounds like a good idea.

I thought Brutus was Ed's domain. I have never seen a rectangular pizza stone. Ours is round an sure helps eliminate the hot spots but it seems rectangular would be even better.

Brutus is Ed's domain but he also has done all the cooking in our family for the last 10 years or so. Got tired of waiting for dinner until I got home from work so he started cooking.

HamCamper - Thanks for the info, I called the number but didn't have my Model and Serial #'s handy. I'll call when I get home (RV). Ours is off by 50 -100 degrees. 2+ hours for a pumpkin pie NEVER AGAIN!!!

We got the rectangular pizza stone either at Linens & Things or at Bed Bath & Beyond, we can't remember which for sure. It came boxed with a pizza cutter or some other implement (which we didn't need) but the stone itself was a perfect size for the oven.
