New members
Hi all,
New members, Kevan and Joanie. We’ve recently purchased our first 5th wheel, a Montana High Country 331RL. We’ve had it out once so far to one of the free 4 night stays you can get from the dealer we bought from and loved it! We’re from La Quinta California and spend most of our time camping at a place we’ve been members at for 15 years - Silent Valley Club.
I’ve got a question for anyone who might care to chime in. We’ve had a class C, 2 class A’s, 2 travel trailers and now the 5th wheel. We’ve never had a surge protector but the more I research, the more I think we should get one. Amazon has the Power Watchdog on sale right now and I’m wondering if I should grab it. Thoughts??

Welcome aboard! We really like that floor plan.
A surge protector is better than nothing, but if you're going to really protect the electrics of your rig then spend a little extra and get an EMS system. You won't regret it.
I installed this one. It works great

Welcome to MOC.
I have the power watch dog. After I looked at all of them I chose the watch dog for several reasons. It’s much quicker to start up and the surge protector is easy and cheap to replace.

Welcome to the MOC. You should absolutely invest in a EMS of some kind. A surge protector is good but an EMS is better. Some install a hardwired EMS and others like me use a portable EMS. See the links below.

I was in a park once where the power went out because a car hit a poll. I tried to start my gen but it wouldn't start because there was a feedback problem due to the downed power lines. 30 minuets later I discovered by unplugging the shore power it started. The power came back 5 minuets after that. With an EMS I wouldn't have missed a beat.
