IS and Disc Brake Installation

I have been thinking of getting the IS and Disc Brakes from Morryde, but have come to the realization, especially with Covid, that there is no way I'm going to get to Elkhart any time in the next year or so.
Does anyone know of a qualified shop on the east coast that could handle this type of upgrade? I see where the parts can be ordered through Morryde, and I could probably do the brakes, but there's no way I could handle the IS installation myself.

Only two authorized places for IS, MORryde in Elkhart and a shop in the North West where the price is higher due to the shipping cost of the parts from Elkhart.

Did you call Moryde and ask when and how far out they are on installs. It maybe sooner than you think.

I'd call Moryde and ask them if there is a place. There may be someone they know of.

Not only does the old suspension need to be cut off, but the I.S. install requires accurately welding on parts, and an alignment of the system. I walked away duly impressed with the quality and effort that was shown on my install. Good luck with your install.

Just had mine done. went with the 8k, and swapped the Lippert pin box for a MORryde one. They raised my rig so it rides level behind my 2017 RAM. Tons of bedrail clearance. Tows very well. RV now stands 13' 4" tall. When we left MORryde we accidentally left the coffee pot on the counter and 5 hours and 250 miles later, it was right where we left it. We were impressed. You will be too. Our 2020 3813 came with Kodiak 7k disc brakes and MORryde did not try to upsell us. They told us we had all we needed brake-wise but they needed to make adapters so the 7k discs would mount on the 8K axle assemblies. Upgraded the wheel bearings to Timkens... goodbye never lubes(prone to RUDs as Elon Musk calls them). They even honored the quoted price from our original install date that we had to cancel due to COVID19 issues last spring.

Get the upgrade you won't regret it.

I have noticed that the ODS rear tire is wearing pretty badly on the inside. The other 3 tires look quite good. Some quick and dirty measuring shows that the rear axle is about 3/4" further apart on the ODS side compared to the DS side. Also, when putting a straight edge across the wheels, the DS side has 4 contact points but on the ODS side the front wheel and front of the rear wheel appear aligned but the rear of the rear wheel is about 3/4" inset. I know the straight edge isn't a perfect test of alignment but it seems it should give a rough idea. We are not home right now, so I swapped the tires on the ODS side so the one tire wasn't getting all the wear until I can get home in the second half of January and address the alignment issues. I would hope it is covered under warranty, at least the extended warranty as the rig is only 14 months old.
My concerns about getting to Elkhart are less about their schedule than mine. I'm not sure I would be able to get there any time soon, even if they have an opening.

Just what are you referring to by "ODS". I suppose DS means driver side .

DS = Door Side
ODS = Opposite Door Side

Don't be afraid to go to Elkhart. They have 50amp hookups and you can stay there. We had ours done a couple of years ago and love it. We went back the first of October to have the wheel bearings done and they were able to raise the 5th wheel up to better fit our new truck. If you need full hookups you can stay at the fairgrounds. You make a reservation, put your money in the box in the office and you never see anyone. Just wear a mask when you go somewhere.

You're over thinking this. Totally agree with cwalker's remarks. MorRyde has the expertise to install the IS best because this is what they do. We had our bearings on our MorRyde IS, re-greased in November and the protocol hasn't changed, except now everyone is consciously wearing a mask. They even serve you lunch.

In the interest of protocol, you need to wear an effective mask (N-95 or better) that fits snugly over your face, including your nose, whether you elect to go to Elkhart or not.

In 2007 we had 2 axles replaced in Grants Pass . It was at a large RV dealer, the name leaves me but it was great service and we stayed on site in thier compound overnight with E/W. we often said that if wehadto move to the US and we could pick a spot to live it would be Grants Pass.

If you get it done make sure they do the alignment correct, they never set the tow on mine & wore my tires out in 3K miles. I set the tow at home & they bought me a new set of tires. So they are a stand up company.

Can't remember where I heard but it was said the Oregon place doesn't do as good, but maybe they would have set the tow.

Wait and go to Elkhart and let moryde do it for you. It took me five moths to get in and it was worth the wait.

The west coast install is at Henderson’s, Grants Pass Oregon. When you arrive they take all the measurements and send the information to Moryde Moryde fabricates each wheel position then ships to Henderson. So instead of a 2 day install it’s a 2 week wait, then 2 days to install. The cost is $3,000 more due to freight and I’m guessing a higher labor rate. I called last July and earliest appointment was December 10. The good news is there is a substantial discount November thru February. My 7K axles & Kodiak disc brakes was $6,500

It's not fear of Covid that is keeping me from going to Elkhart. I have other plans and other health concerns as well as work preventing the trip any time in the near future. As for doing it myself, the brakes are fairly simple, but as indicated above, the IS would require cutting off the existing suspension and then "ACCURATELY" welding on the new suspension. None of which are within my capabilities or tool set.

Henderson's LineUp in Grants Pass

I had my IS serviced and the suspension aligned a few weeks ago by Henderson's LineUp in Grants Pass. I drove home (about 350 miles on Interstate 5) and noticed the tires had uneven wear: the driver's side front is wearing on the outside and the passenger side rear is wearing on the outside... I talked to Henderson's and they say it's a tire problem. I'm trying to find a local trailer repair/service company that can check the alignment. Also, I'm going to drive it and have my brother (a mechanic) follow me and see if he can detect any crabbing...

A picture of the driver's side front tire is attached. The passenger side rear has the same wear pattern: more on the outside than on the inside.

Suggestions are welcome!

Quick & dirty check would be a straight edge of some placed on the tire to see if they are towed in or out. Mine was towed out 5/16 & 3/8.
