There are a number of intersections (<10?) on the 101 near the Golden Gate where it cuts through SF that are narrow and pretty short (3x your rig?). Personally, don't think it's worth the hassle. Hence, the 580 bridge and the east side of the bay is a good route.
The 101 near King City south of Monterey has been under construction for last 3 years. There were sections where concrete barriers were placed on both sides of the lane - doable but had to drive about 40mph. We drive it 2-3x/year with the last time being Dec, 22. Last I read, it's supposed to be done but I find that up-to-date info is hard to find. Yanks RV park is just north of KC and they might be your best local source for an update. (We usually over night there.) You can zoom in on the google satellite view and see an example of the barriers. There is a semi-truck and it gives an idea about the space available. Again, this might be completed by now.

Hwy 1 really depends on where you are going. There are sections that are open 1 or 2 lane highways and sections where it cuts through a town that you may want to avoid.
Happy travels!
