Hitch height

Lots of good info on this site, I almost bought a Pullrite 2800, but the height above the truck bed would not work with my GMC 2500.

The Pullrite has a height of 18.5", my present hitch is 16.5 and even at this, the trailer (3790RD with Moreryde) is a little front high. Also, if the 18.5" is from the top of the rails rather than the bed, the height would be a true 19.75".

The truck side is 21 -21.5 from the bed, dependent upon where it is measured.
So I see two problems with there being no adjustment on the Pullrite to reduce it's height.
1) Even if I raise the pin box to it's maximum I will only pick up another 2.5"; therefore the trailer is higher at the front than it presently is.
2) Without the trailer attached, and the tonneau cover in place, the king pin plate will tilt and make contact with (and damage) the tonneau.

An alternative is the Demco, which has three height adjustments 15" / 16.5" / 18".

The Pullrite is available locally at a good price. if I go with the Demco it will have to ship 1200 miles and potentially arrive after I start my first camping trip of the year. On this basis, I will continue with my existing manual slider.

So am I missing something, there must be many Pullrite owners on this site, is the Pullrite height a problem?

I have the Pullrite Superglide hitch. It also has no height adjustment. On mine, the hitch 'head' which tilts can be removed with two cotter pins (?) easily.
As to overall height, my trailer runs about 2 inches high, I believe. Around 2010-11 the truck manufacturers decided they liked higher bed rails and higher truck bed for some reason. I went from a 2006 to a 2012 and the bed was 1 1/2 inches higher off the ground, if my memory serves. Then the bed rails were another inch or so taller. So in order to clear the rails, I had to raise the pin box, which gives me 7 1/2 or 8 inches - more than needed but can't go with just 5 1/2 inches.
I (and others have said) have no problems with the nose 2 inches above level.

I have a pull rite 2800 as well, in a ram 3500, 2016. I had to adjust my Pin Box. Also, Pull rite makes 2 sets of brackets that mount to the rails,. make sure you look at it with the low profile brackets vs the standard. They account for at least an inch. My unit is damn near close to level, prob within 1 or 2 inches, def not tilted back excessive. It tows and handles great. having hit the cab of my truck twice, ill take it over the manual slider.
As for under the cover, the head of the hitch easily removes with 2 cotter pins. I just take the head off, and I use a bungy to keep the hitch from sliding around, and my cover fits back on the truck great, and doesn't contact and part of the hitch at all. Only thing I dislike about the pullrite is the weight, its damn heavy. I can get it in and out alone, but its a bear.

Had to go with the Demco Hitchiker because the PR height didn't adjust.

I just installed a Demco slider and so far am pleased with it.The height is the same as the B&W non slider.Also it rides on a teflon plate so there is no lube mess as with a Pullrite.I bought mine from Tweey's,abought $1100. Free shipping and only about 5 days for delivery.

I saw a similar price elsewhere, appears that the dealers have the hitch direct from Demco in Texas. If I could have been assured of 5 days shipping I would have ordered, but with the first trip imminent, I will have to wait until I spend some time at home.

2006 Ford with the Pullrite 2700. Raised the pinbox and my Montana sits pretty darn level. I do not have a cover so that did not matter to me.

One thing I didn't mention was you don't have the capture plate so you can pull almost any 5th wheel.With the Pullrite you are pretty much limited.

Some pinboxes do require a capture plate with the Demco Hitchiker; mine does (Morryde).

Or you can the capture plate off and tow anything.

Just bought a 2017 2500 Ram Cummins Diesel, have a 3150RL w/ Moreryde. I have zero experience with purchasing the correct 5th wheel tow hitch. Ram as the factory hitch prep in the bed. From reading above, seems like the Demco is they way to go. I went to the Tweetys website, but i clicked on "Fifth Wheel Hitches and Mounting Kits for the Ram Trucks w Factory Prep Kit" and Demco is not listed Also, seems like buying an auto-slider is a no brainer...suggestions please!

Oh also, we have a long bed so is it worth purchasing an autoslider??? My "other half" says we dont need it...but I say better safe than sorry...

You do not need it with a long wheelbase.

You don't need a slider.
The Ram 5th wheel hitch that mounts in the four factory holes is "Sweet"
No rails in the bed when you remove the hitch.

if you have a long bed, you don't need a slider at all.
I have always been partial to Reese, they are great hitches. I have the pull rite auto slide now, first time without a reese. I like it. Truth be told, if reese made an autoslide though, I would stay with them, creature of habit I guess. The companion hitch has great reviews and they have a model that fits right in the Ram puck system without a backet.
Also, just an FYI, Mopar has a hitch as well, that fits right in the pucks, and I believe it is made my Reese for Mopar.

Look into a Curt hitch, made in the USA. We had it installed on our 2016 Ram 2500 then took it out and installed it in the Ram 3500 with a puck system. No issues.

I used the Reese 5th wheel hitch for eight years and it was a nice hitch. I have now used the B & W companion for two years and I prefer it. It tows smoother and is quieter.

I have the B&W companion RVK3600 that uses the puck system. Best hitch (by far) that I have ever owned. Smooth hookups and disconnects. No chucking. If I want to use my truck bed, I just turn 4 levers and hang it off the pin box by raising the landing legs.

I have a B & W hitch that I bought for my Ram 3500. Had it since they first came out and it is a GREAT hitch. Built very strong. Comes apart in two pieces for easy install and removal.
