When a plan works (sliding tray installation)

Those times when everything works perfectly bring a sense of satisfaction that is unsurpassed. I had posted earlier that I had ordered a 26" wide full size Morryde sliding cargo tray for the basement of the 3850FL. Today was the installation day at the mini-storage lot and everything worked just as initially hoped for. A stop at Home Depot was required on the way to do the installation to acquire the screws and a couple of two by fours to elevate the tray to allow for clearance if needed. The two by fours were definitely needed to provide clearance for the basement door latches and were placed in the compartment first before sliding the tray into the basement:



The tray was then slid into place to allow for the actual installation to commence. The are beneath the tray will provide som additional storage as well:



The two by fours were secured to the basement floor with #10 2 inch screws which were countersunk into the 2 x 4's with four being used at each end. In addition the same screws were used for the outermost location of securing the sliding tray frame itself to the two by fours:



An additional set of screws (1 1/2") were then used to secure the frame to the two by fours at a location about a foot or so towards the middle of the basement (I did not want to have screws in the floor within the rig frame, hence the shorter screws):



After installation, the results were better than I expected. There is room along the basement walls to hang items that will clear the tray contents:



The plan definitely worked since the tray can be slid out from both sides. The clearance on the main side was a matter of 1/8" on the side of the locking mechanism and about 1/4" clearance on the tray rollers themselves. I would like to take credit for the engineering involved, but in reality it was just a case of being blessed that it worked even better than intended since the original plan was just to have the slide accessible from the offside of the rig. The offside view when fully extended:



The next step will be to design a frame for the basement dorm fridge to sit on and devise a way to facilitate the Autoformer installation as well. As mentioned in the earlier thread, the tray cost was $425 with free shopping from Radauto.com and the installation materials added about another $10 to the cost including the little bit of gasoline to run the Honda 2000 generator at the mini-storage lot to power the tools. DW came by after the installation and was impressed as well!

Shipping weight was 145 pounds so i would guess tray is a little less than 140. As part of the basement reconfiguration, I am going to go through everything and see what can be eliminated.

Weight capacity is 800 pounds, which should be evenly distributed.

Very nice install. It looks identical to the one we have had in both our Montana's except ours is 18 inches wide. It will make life a lot easier.
