Black Tank
Hi Hope your travels have been happy ones. I have been living in our 07 Montana going on 9 yrs. The black tank has not drained the last few times and we had to run the wand down to unblock it. In 07 we started using Angel soft until someone mentioned the company had changed the consistency of the paper and after the jar test we discovered it wasn't breaking down as well and we switched to Great Northern tissue which passed the test. But now once again the paper is not breaking down as well. What have you found works well without having to resort to just using the RV tissue. Would using something like Rid'X work or is it even safe for the RV tanks? Happy Trails

We use "Thetford Aqua Soft", this is their 2 ply product. It's a big improvement over regular 1 ply RV toilet paper. Bit more expensive though, for example, at Camping World the 1 ply Thetford is $3.40 for a 4 pack and the 2 ply Aqua soft is $5.90 for a four pack.

After years of using Angel Soft when they switched the formula we switched to Scott one ply RV from Wallmart and are happy with it.

X2 on the "Thetford Aqua Soft" 2 ply tissue. That is all we have ever used in 5 RV's in the last 20 years and have never had a problem. I also add Calgon Water softener and Happy Campers Treatment to the Black tank after each dump. Highly recommend all 3 of them!!

We have always used Angel Soft with no problems.....and every so often....use a small teaspoon of Riddex in the black tank.

We stopped putting ANY paper in our black tank 2 years ago! Put a small waste basket in the toilet room with several clean grocery bags and empty each day. This really make your black tank function the best.

Are you sure your black tank valve is closing all the way after dumping, if it does not completely seal off and the black tank looses water, it will create a dry pack, at least that what we call it in the plumbing business, the contents will turn to mush and not drain the black tank out completely...

You might investigate TankTechsRX. We have not tried the treatment yet, nor have we had a need to get the tank cleaned, but the process seems to make sense. It would also probably be much safer for your tank and valve, instead of using something that may harm the system. Their web site is http://tanktechsrx.com/unclogging-yo...ank-or-toilet/

Biggest problem with black tanks is that folks do not use enough water when "flushing."

you can start doing what they do down in mexico. the pipe in many parts of mexico can't handle any type of toilet paper so they don't put paper in the toilet, thereis a basket next to the toilet.

We have been using the Sam's Wholesale Club brand. Nice and soft and dissolves well. Never had a problem.

Absolutely...We also dump every three days. It takes all of maybe 15/20 mins out of our busy retirement lifestyle.
