Pre-cooking for the road
10# of Bacon takes up room, heavy, and when you cook it, messy in the RV. We elected to cook it and vacuum pack it, then freeze it.
We have a small chest freezer we carry on board for trips. Some bacon we left whole, some we cut into smaller sections. You can buy pre-cooked bacon, but we like Farmland smoked, and cook it ourselves.
Here is 5#:

My DW does the same thing with Hamburger and Chicken, then just adds spices for tacos, spagetti, etc. works out well. We do not cook in our trailer, just heat or defrost thing in the Microwave. We do Dutch Ovens and of course Barbaque and grill outside......Ron

That is good planning Ron. Amazing how much you can save that way, and eat good too.

I cook Pasta and freeze it--put the bag in hot water and you have quick spaghetti, Macoroni, etc for cassroles, etc

I have never tried to freeze bacon after it's been cooked Ozz. I'll have to try that for our next trip.
We do pre cook many meals before we go on any trip, soups, gumbo, spaghetti, noodles, we freeze them in the 1 gal freezer bags, we lay them on a flat and when frozen they can be stacked like books in the freezer they take up less room that way.

On the smoker I cook ribs and chicken breast then vacuum pack them in serving sizes. Just heat them up in the microwave and you have your main meal. ready.

Another super tip Doug. don't you just love that vacuum pack machine? Beats the old days when you went to the freezer and tried to figure out what was in the package!

A BLT or two would be some nice about now.
We also pick out shrimp or whatever is in season and freeze 1/2 pound portions.
If we take too much when we go south we can usually find someone to help out!

I do a few briskets and slice it up--vac pac--then freeze. Always have good brisket! I even do it at home since we can't eat 14-18 lbs of brisket at one time! Also do chicken breast. Been doing bacon and into the freezer for years. Actually an old Boy Scout trick to have breakfast tacos the first morning on a back packing trip--BUT--I have lost a few to raccoons that are the usual night visitors when sleeping in a tent. So pack carefully--hang the bacon in a tree if camping or keep it in the freezer in the RV. All great stuff.

Ok Ozz, I tried it and sucking the gut in doesn't make a lot of difference. Bottom line is .... bacon is a food group for me so no matter what the profile, it's a staple!

Tim-- A good Texan should be able to eat that 14-18# brisket at one sitting with no problem! Thanks Ozz, got to get the Seal-o-Meal out before heading to Q and the great Southwest so we can have some of the goodies without having to drag the smoker or the Big Easy along with us!

We are just 60 miles from Q, I have noticed they really need some K.C. or.. Midwest BBQ out here, I have not found a good BBQ place here yet. Plenty of Mexican food though..
