Need outside porch light
When we return to our Monty at night, we can't see the key hole and/or the steps.
Has anyone added a step/porch light with a outside on/off switch?
If so, how did you do it?

I believe there have been several posts on this subject. Go into the search engine at the top of the page and type in porch light or step lights. I think you'll find several threads on this subject!
I just did a search after I posted the original reply and typed in porch lights and also step lights and came up with about 9 different threads. Those should help you!

I added an additional porch light down low by the step. It actually has it's own switch underneath. I pulled power from the inside hall factory switch panel by feeding the wire under the stairs and down into the belly by the furnace and then pulling it across to the door side above the belly pan. I also have a remote control key fob that turns it on as well as other lighting.
Once you determine how to get power to the light, you can add a remote control relay with a key chain fob pretty easy and pretty cheap

I added a light under the stairs, wired it up like Brad did, my switch is on the inside.
I like the remote idea Brad came up with.
The Red light is an indicator for the flood lights, so we don't accidentally leave them on, the Green is for the porch light, the Black switch is for the stairs light, I also added a small light inside the door for that landing that is dark. The big Red rocker switch is a control I added to run the furnace fan independent of the heat, so I can circulate air within the trailer through a pleated filter, for cleaner air.

Brad and Ozz,
Great pictures of your mods. Thanks. Pictures make it much easier for those of us who can't read! Nice safety additions you both have added. Thanks for sharing.

Brad,
Isn't that the same type of light that is up under the upper deck by the pin box?
Great idea!!

Yeppers, same light MIMF.
My true motive - as I confess - was to cover the two large bolt holes left in that spot by my awning cleat when I changed over to electric. However, it could have been installed just below the cleat if I still had the old awning.

Being electrically challenged as I am, I opted for a battery powered motion sensor light attached with industrial Velcro just outside the door. It is enough to light the step and immediate area without offending the neighbors and is activated either from approach on the outside, or opening the door from the inside.
One of these days when I grow up I'll be able to play like the big boys do...

I think it was WalMart...it was just a cheapy too, under 10 bucks and I'm on the second season with it. It's white and non obtrusive.
I put a small piece of tape over the top of the sensor (like a hood) to reduce the sensitivity so it's got a shorter range.
I would do it the same way again given the need.

I tried to find a link for it and was unsuccessful, but next time you're in the store take a look. Those inexpensive items tend to not make it on the web.

Pretty simple in a 3400RL. There is a drain pipe in the wall containing the switches. I put a light under the coach in the step well area. This lights the steps fine. I simply spliced on to the lines coming from the switch for the porch light and ran the wire down beside the drain pipe to under the coach. I had to pull the underbelly insulation loose and run the wire to the steps. The underbelly is just screwed on, so it was easily removed and replaced. The DW really loves it. Don't let her know but I kinda like it too!
