Would appreciate campground recommendations for the area between Joliet and Gary near highway 80...

Joliet has a number of nice ones, but stay away from the Hamond/Gary area. Very bad neighborhoods. Also, this weekend is the first race in the NASCAR chase at Chicago Speedway so Joliet may not have many spaces available.

We stayed at the Hollywood Casino...has a decent RV park...good for a one nighter and a walk to the casino/ restaurants

I agree with what was said about the Hammond/Gary area. However, Joliet isn't much better and has a severe gang problem. If it was me I would look for CG's a few miles west of Joliet, like around Ottawa or Marseilles. Starved Rock State Park is in that area which is really nice this time of year.

We stayed at Hollywood Casino RV park......$39 a night for e/w a bit high but real nice park. We fit safe. Did not go to far into Joliet - just to get gas mid afternoon.
Free light breakfast at hotel lobby every morning 6:30 to 10 am
laundry - $1 for washers - $1.50 for dryers - only 2 machines each.
