Clevland Ohio Bypass

There is a bypass around Cleveland Ohio (rt 271) heading north & south that is under construction and according to streets and trips is closed to traffic. What alternatives are the snowbirds taking,Cleveland is not a city I want to travel through, anyone who has pulled your monty through Cleveland knows what I mean, plus this takes off a lot of miles if your heading towards Pa along lake Erie.

This summer we traveled I-90 from Erie, PA to Cleveland. Picked up Ohio Rte 2 to Sandusky and into Toledo. Most all of 2 is 4 lanes and it also avoids the Ohio Turnpike.
So if you are heading east or west thru Cleveland that is my suggestion.

We took I 90 from New York all the way to Sandusky where we spent a few days. While in that area we use Highway 2 and at some times 6 but we sure didn't have any trouble going through Cleveland. In fact, we couldn't believe how fast we got through and were a little dissapointed that we didn't get to see more.

I just ran I-271 to 90 east on a bus charter yesterday and there was no road closers all the way to the I90 East 240 exit...Some small road projects but nothing serious. From the west I ran I480E to I 271 to 90East clear to Erie and points East.

My version of S&T 2008 does not show any construction on I-271. Have you updated your construction information recently?

Yes, I made up a route along 271 around Cleveland, and no construction zones showed up. We have driven that route many times, but not in the last year, so I can't offer any first hand knowledge. It is such a major route, I can't imagine that it would be totally closed without some provision to take traffic around any construction. Can you get info from any other source? e.g. the Ohio DOT?

I just traveled on Rt271 south and north this weekend. This is what is going on. When you get to exit 19 on rt271 south, move to the left hand lane, and stay there until you get past exit 18. The lane divides at 18 and if you are in the right lane, you will have to exit!!! It is wide enough to pull through, but always be on the careful side. This is only about a two mile lane restriction,so it is not bad. On the return heading north, you also need to stay in the left lane before you reach 18. There are signs telling you to move to left lane for thru traffic, so you do not get caught having to exit.
