2008 F250 6.4 Diesel Regeneration
I have a 2008 F250 6.4 diesel with a little less than 9000 miles on it.
I have just noticed that I do not see the "Regeneration" message coming up on the Information Panel any more. It did display that it was in Regeneration and to continue to drive until it finished. Then it would display that it had ended Regeneration. These messages have stopped coming up. Has anyone else had this to happen?

Have you had it in for service lately???? There IS a new flash that increases the time between regenerations. We now see regenerations @ every 500 miles when on the road at highways speeds. If in for service they may have done the flash. If not you may have a problem.

No Rich, I have never had it in for service. So, I suspect your right, I may have a problem. I just recently pulled Monty about 225 miles, up a mountain and back, everything seemed to run great; but, no messages appeared during the trip. It has probably been 1500 miles or more since I saw any messages.

Not good.. Is your tail pipe collecting soot. If you an run your finger around the tail pipe and it comes out with ANY soot pur DPf is failing or has failed. A failed DPF will NOT throw a code but a black tail pipe IS a indication that there is a problem.

No Rich, the tailpipe is not black at all. If I run my finger around the inside of the pipe I get just a very little dusty looking stuff that you can hardly see on your finger at all.

I also have under 9000 miles on my F-350 and have never noticed the regeneration message being displayed. When towing the Monty I check the display often, but no messages. The tail pipe is clean and soot free. I had the truck was serviced 5 months ago and the computer was re-flashed with latest upgrades at that time. It will be interesting to see if you really do have a problem and what it is.

If your not identifying any soot at the tailpipe your regen system has been working. Your likely running good quality fuel with ultra low sulphur which minimizes the amount of soot that collects in the filter. Before I made the big change mine was going in the 500 mile range while pulling but soot was showing up in the tailpipe. Yours may be in a worst case situation, have a cracked sensor and it will not pick up the differential pressure across the filter to inititate the regen cycle.

My F350 seems to regen every 200 miles. Will have to take it in to the shop for the latest software update.

Mine regens every 200 miles or more often, am getting 10.8 MPG with synthetic oil & fuel additive not towing, combination hwy & city, mostly City, 24,000 mile on it. 18mpg not towing highway here in the mountains which is great. Dealership says the computer is up to date and all is OK.
Going to try another service center.

Mike, mine was going through a regen about every 200-300 miles; but, it hasn't gone through one in at least 500-600 miles and about 200 of that was pulling Monty. I live on a mountain so a lot of my around town miles are up and down the mountain. I get around 10.6 mpg around town, and 17-18 on the highway running 60-65 mph. When I tow Monty I pull at 65 mph and it drops to around 9 mpg.
I wasn't able to get it into a dealer last week, had to take care of my mother-in-law going in and out of the hospital. I will try to get it in either this week or next week. I need to get my oil changed and have the recalls done. I also am going to tell them about the more-than-normal hesitation on takeoff and the lack of regens lately. I'll post what I find out for everyone.

Press your dealer to find the latest TSB. There IS a flash that decreases the period of regen's Just got it last month. The flash did NOT effect MPG but seems to have improved on the power.I do not know the TSB number .

richfaa, perhaps you could call your dealer and ask for the TSB number. I checked with my dealer this week and was told there is no new regen. spec. since the one installed about a year ago that decreased the regen cycle from about 700 plus miles to about a 150 to 200 mile interval.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I too would love to know this TSB number. I am on my way home from a visit to the Pacific Northwest and am experiencing a re-gen every 125-150 miles towing the Monty. They don't last long, 12-15 miles, but always seem to occur every time I encounter significant grades. Not great timing as there is a noticeable performance degradation during a re-gen.
I am planning to visit my dealer next week and would like to be prepared. Knowing a TSB would be a good start.

Just returned from the Ford Dealer..The TSB Number is TSB 09-19-10. This article supersdes TSB 9-16-10 to update the customer information sheet.
All the dealer needs to do is enter your VIN number into the system and your TSB status will be displayed. Now my 08 is a early build Job 1 truck. There were 3 builds in 2008. more than 1 in 2009 and 2010. Your truck will have the latest software updates in the system at the date of manufacturer. When your dealer enters your VIN and says you have the latest updates he is telling the truth...IF he looked it up. When your dealer asks for TSB 09 19-10 he will get a 4 page print out.
We all drive differently. 95 % of our driving miles are pulling the 3400 at interstate speeds . We regenerate @ every 500 miles. IF you drive your truck exactly the same way we drive ours you should regenerate at @ the same intervals. The intervals are from 100 to 600 miles from the completion of the last regeneration. Dave (Montana Sky) you will get more frequesnt regens on your brand new truck for @ 3to 5K..... BTW..The publication date of TSB 09-19-10 is September 17,2009.....

Thanks Rich. I will have my dealer back home check the updates for my truck when I get back. I already have 3200 miles on it and the regen process continues to happen every 150-200 miles.
