She's a beauty! I have one of them follow me quite often! My Brother-in-law has an older version with the Cat engine. He tows a 15k trailer and has to catch up to me on the down side of the hills. Turns heads when entering campgrounds or just driving around town...pain parking it when we go out to dinner, shopping, and sightseeing. Makes me feel bad when I call him on CB to announce "its time to refuel"...as his dual saddle tanks aren't 1/2 empty yet! His is odd in that there is no xover fuel line so he has to pull up 2x to fill each side separately...yet engine pulls diesel from both, no switching of tanks.

I really like the towing capacity of 28,000 lbs! Plus the idea of having a million+ mile truck sure would have its advantages. The rv transport idea is not out yet, weighing all my options at the moment.

This truck in my opinion has the most features for the best price. Sportchassis also makes a nice truck, but a equally optioned truck is almost $35,000 more. Neely Coble has the Freightliner M2 as well, but much less as far as the options go.

Dave,

If you buy one of those, you won't be on my side any more.

Good for you!

Rick,
Don't worry, my Duramax is not going anywhere, but the garage. Will contiue to use it as my daily driver and for other small jobs around the house. The Frieghtliner would be my personal business truck.

Should you decide to go the RV transporter route. We have talked to many RV transporters who do that as a livelihood and they all agreed that the 1 ton Dually(any brand) was not up to the rigors involved in full time RV transporting. They all claimed that you had to do 100k miles a year pulling or more to make a good living and the 1 tons did not measure up.

Judy,
I have a lotto ticket in my pocket for tonight's drawing. You never know.... =)

Rich,
That's what I have been hearing as well. I was planning on 100,000 to 150,000 miles a year. Within 2 years I would have well over 200,000 miles on the dually. Would be time to buy a new truck. The cost to buy the Frieghtliner is almost 2.25x's the retail price of a fully loaded 1 ton dually. But I am also taking into account fuel, service, oil changes, tires, upkeep, loaded mileage, ease of fuel pumping at truck stops, fuel range, longevity of the motor and tranny, and a few other things.

If my logic adds up, in 1,000,000 miles I would probably be buying 5 dually trucks to the 1 Freightliner. At $49,985 x 5= $249,925.00 in 1 ton dually trucks. Or I could buy the M2 for approx. $85 - $105,000 depending on which dealership and options I go with. That brings me a savings of $140,000 to $165,000 just on the truck, again depending on dealer and options. That does not include any other savings from having the M2 vs. the 1 ton dually. Still have more research to do and still looking at other options as well.

Logic sounds good. One Transporter said he had been through 2 1 ton duallys in 3 years and was going to a MDT.

Most of the transport drivers are all independent or better known as owner operators. You have to "lease" yourself and truck through a company to get your DOT number and load insurance.

I have been looking into the following companies,
Horizon Transport
Hoosier Transport
Quality Transport

There are at least another 15 companies in the Goshen area, anyone have any other companies they have had experience with??
