Flashing Headlights
We just completed a 2700+ mile trip...I 40, I 20, I 10. Flashed my lights at countless Montanas, if fact, they are probably burned out. Not one truck flashed back...got one wave, and that was it. Maybe they are not forum members??

Had the same experience on my trip to Goshen. Found that most of the Montana's I passed were transport trucks bringing new Montana's to their new owners.
I passed 4 Montana's while in the Seattle area this passed weekend. Flashed and waved at each of them, no reply...

Oh well, if we keep flashing, maybe the others will get the idea.
Also, you never know if traffic caused the other driver to not see us or maybe they were conversing with DW.

As an old truck driver I feel a reason they don't is that not so many years ago, before the CB, it was customary for truckers to flash their headlights 3 times to warn oncoming truckers of problems ahead. The problem most often related to Smokey taking pictures (Radar) but it could be any reason to slow down and be on the alert. The typical response to this gesture was a thank you wave. As some drivers totally ignore the flashing, the ones waving back may think you are sending a warning of some sort.

We also sometimes get distracted by traffic etc and notice a Montana when it is too late to flash.

I've had only a handful of return flashes and only once did I find out who (Rickety) returned the flash. While those "not in the know" probably have no idea why we are flashing them, those who know about it will probably return the flash if they see it in time. I suspect not all that many MOC members are aware of the flashing lights.

Can't speak for others, but Al and I are usually so busy driving and navigating that we don't see the other Montana till it is to late to wave, moreless flick the lights on.

Same with us Carol. By the time we see it ....too late.
We usually do flash if we see it in time. Have only had one flash us back.

Glenn,
I haven't been a truck driver, but some where along the line I picked up the flashing the headlights to signal radar or a hazard. I just used those three flashes to warn some one on a country road that there was a wreck that was on a blind curve up ahead. I am sure they were thinking it was radar, but heah if it got them to slow down so they didn't plow into the emergency vehicles ..... then it worked.
