Water Meter

Few weeks ago I received my portable garden hose water meter. I've been wanting one for the Montana for quite a while now. I never hook up directly to the campground water spigot, but always pump from my fresh water tank. Because the campgrounds we visit (mostly state parks), very seldom if ever, have full hook-ups, I use my 35 gallon water tank and transfer pump to fill my fresh water tank when there is no water on site, and use my blue tote to haul away waste.

It's nice to keep a good handle on exactly how much water is actually being used to help control the water "in" and the water "out" so I'm not filling up and wasting water filling, nor am I overflowing the blue tote.

Thus, the water meter.

It's been a great little tool to help know exactly how much water we are using.

Even if you are hooked at a full hook up site, the amount of water you actually use may surprise you.

I'm all for conservation, it's part of our responsibility as campers to take care of our environment. I think that includes water usage as well as electricity.

Anyway, this little gem cost only $19.95 and it's been an educational experience using it. One number on the read out is the current usage. The second one is an accumulative usage. Both can be reset to zero at any time.

Mine is called "Save a Drop." It's sold at different locations. I got mine off Amazon.

Here's one. Click here.

I have the same one. It is an eye opener to see just how much water is being used. My wife was stunned to find out that a gallon of water didn't run from the kitchen faucet every few seconds. It actually takes more time than you'd think.
I also use it to put 5-7 gallons in the black tank after draining, 10 gallons in the fresh tank for travel, etc. Very easy to meter and know exactly vs. just timing. Plus, when flushing the black tank, I can fill it with 40 gallons to flush and know that I'm not overflowing inside.
