INFO NEEDED

We are going to "Look" at a 2014 Keystone RV Montana Big Sky 382RL tomorrow...just look. Those of you with newer units what issues are there with the full body paint (heard of problems with fading paint on the front cap), what about the level-up 6 point leveling system, is the dishwasher worth it and does it work, anything else you can think of that we should know. It has been 8 years since we have been out to look thinking about purchasing.

I believe the fading caps were associated with High Country models. I have not heard of nor experienced fading issues with the Big Sky painted cap. Level Up is one of those things like a Surge Protector or EMS system, once you have it, you will not be without it!! Can't speak for the OEM dishwasher, but I can say that the one we had installed (Fisher-Paykel) is absolutely the best mod that we have done to any of our rigs. On another note, that "Looking" is dangerous and can result in a malady known as "gotta-have-it fever"!!

Just my Opinion and experience.... On my 13 big sky and perhaps on mine only the full body paint is pretty but it chips easily.IMO it is not a quality paint job at least MIne only was not.

Thanks for all the replies. Good info and I always climb to the roof and crawl under each rig before we purchase.

Yep we looked at them at Tacoma RV right by you before we bought our 2015 3735MK because the Big Sky has a 100in frame but after looking at them compared to the Legacy models we were not impressed enough to pay the Extra cash ,Dishwasher no big deal,Body paint nice but the new Gel coat and Redesigned Graphics of the Legacy is Beautiful too, the 100in frame did not seem much bigger inside to us (Except the Hallway)So we said the heck with it and went with a Loaded Legacy model with 6 point level(MUST HAVE)and very happy we did AND by the Way Tacoma RV has the Warranty for life thrown in and it covers everything Except the slides and 6 point level JUST my 2 bits

You will love the 6 point levelers, as stated earlier, once you have it there is no going back!

If I got a full paint unit whether it be a Big Sky or a Legacy unit that you can get full paint on now, I would have Line X or Rhino spray the lower section of the front. I think richfaa has had his done but not sure on that. I've talked to a Line X dealer here about spraying the front of our unit and still thinking of having it done. They can even match the paint if you want it done. You do have to find a dealer that has a big enough building and door to put the unit in so they can spray the unit. It normally takes them about three days to do the job because they mask off the whole unit pretty well so it does not get over spray on the rest of the unit when spraying.

Yes we had the lower Front Lin X'ed.They can do most any color but we did ours in Black. Our Front lower after @ 12 K miles or so was badly chipped. It did take three days as it had to cure. Looks good and no chips this stuff is tough. Yes we had Rock Tamers.

we have the 382RL. Love the dishwasher and use it all the time. We have experienced only a couple of very small chips on the front paint. No fading of the front cap after 7 1/2 months of ownership. It's never been parked under cover. Level-Up is a must have in our book.

We have a 09 with the full body paint. Granted ours is not the dark colors but we really like the paint. If we could afford the paint when purchasing a new unit we would buy it again. All the swishes are paint fewer graphics to curl up and look bad. The only graphics on the unit are Big Sky and it would look just fine with out them if need be. Since graphics are crappy the paints a must for us.....but it comes with a price tag.

I would pass on the paint. The front of my '14 3150RL is plastic. The plastic is one sheet that covers the bottom of the overhang and extends down the front.

The white plastic is chip proof. Is cleanable. Last summer while going across Kansas on 400, we encountered a section of road they had just re-striped but the paint was not dry. I ended up with yellow paint over the front of the trailer,(plastic) in the wheel well of the truck, (plastic) and on the mud flaps, (plastic).

If I had LineX or paint, the clean up would have been much different.
