30 amp power cords---25' or 50'??

I'm about to start buying the electrical cords and adapters I need for my new rig since I'm a newbie and don't have any gear to start with.

A basic question to start with. I'm planning to use 30 amp cords for those situations where the CG doesn't have 50 amp power and/or I don't feel I need more than 30 amp power. I figure I will need at least 50 feet of 30 amp cord in at least some situations, whereas 25 feet of cord will be enough in other situations. My initial question--is it sufficient to buy two 25 foot 30 amp cords to handle both situations, and just plug the two together when I need a 50 foot cord, or would I be better off having both a 50 foot cord and a 25 foot cord so that I don't loose some juice in the plug connection if I'm in a marginal power situation and need 50 feet of cord?

HI I carry 1- 50', 2- 25' all 30 amp. 50amp stays home. Have never needed it in over 40,000 miles of traveling this great country with the 3400. 2- 25' cords should be fine. Dan

The 30 amp cords are lighter and much easier to handle. If I was doing it I would buy one 50 and one 25. Then you could use which ever on you need and in the event the 50 is too short and that has happened to me twice you have the extra 25 feet.
At our RV store I saw them with led lights on one or both ends. I would get that type now because it helps to tell you if the breaker is turned on.
Since your talking about 30 amp I assume you will be using the short 50 amp connector into the trailer and the 12 to 18 inch pigtail to the 30 amp plug.
After I posted I saw foggyb post. 1 50 and 2 25 is even better. I do also haul the 50 amp with me. If we are going to be parked a couple of day then I will hook up to 50 if available.
Good luck and safe towing.
