Surge Guard installation

I have a 2006 3295RK and will be buying a surge guard 50 AMP. Has anyone installed the hard wired in my type of rig? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the hard wired type vs the portable?
If you put in the hard wired type where did you install it?
