There was a story going around the RV Park this summer about a couple who bought a big heavy 5th wheel and no truck. Their idea was to save the $90,000 truck money and use some of that money to hire someone to move the 5th wheel and just pay for that moving service. Maybe a good alternative to getting into debt on a $90,000 truck--but no bragging rights!

Love these discussions since it seems that most of us have some brand loyalty and that's how we talk. I've had Fords, cars and trucks all my life with only a couple slips. I know what they can do. My current truck is a virtually trouble free 125,000 mile early 2011 Job 1 (May 2010 build) Why should I change when the last was a 100% trouble free 2006 100K F350 V10 and way back with a few F150s between was a 1976 and a 1979 F350 with 460s - both of which are still running as field trucks.


What all this boils down to is that you end up with the truck brand you are loyal to or else bought from a dealer that gives you the best deal if loyalty is of no concern. All three brands are completely capable. The horsepower and capacity hype are nothing more then that. All it means is that the lower rated trucks will 'beat out' the higher one after a software tweak and maybe a minor spring rate change along with a 'B' pillar sticker - and how mine went from 390Hp to 400 and torque from 735 to 800.


But let's keep the thread going as there is usually some good info

For nearly 25 years I would have nothing but Chevrolet for me and DW's vehicles. And never had any significant failures or problems. When looking to buy a new one in 1987 a Chevy salesman made me mad. Drove across town just to look at Fords. Been driving nothing but Fords for mine and DW's ever since, including two of the 6.0 diesels. And never a problem with any of them either. And the only time I ever looked at the Rams (Dodge back then) I did not like them. But that was years ago. Will stay with the Ford unless something significant happens to change my mind.

Brand loyalty aside, they are all equally capable and reliable. None are any better or worse than the other. Just a matter of the little unexplained personal details that draw a person to one or the other.

However, that has never stopped a good debate about it.

I could take any one of the three and make an arrangement as to why it’s the best truck made. Truth is they are all great trucks. Each has its strengths. We all should buy the best one for ourselves and respect others for doing the same.

Gotta when the manufactures compete, just waiting for job 2 to place an order.
Anyone, Anyone at all, towing even 30,000 lbs? At this point it's like saying one car does 200 mph and this other car goes 210 mph. It does not make the car thats faster better. So while towing my 40 foot Montana at loaded weight of 13000lbs reaches the Summit 20 seconds slower, means nothng to me personally. Ill take reliabilty anyday ....See CP4 injection pump issues..

Yes, I tow construction equipment with my truck, not every day but more than I tow my camper so I need a truck with that capability. Doesn't have to be a Ford, but towing 30K & having 4wd in a comfortable truck is a big bonus.

It seams to me that there’s a lot of
Fords and Gms on the road for this time bomb to be all that big of a problem.

The writer probably thinks fuel is gas..He did not say gasoline, or petrol. Gas would do more damage to the engine, not the injection pump.

Not any more,most all 2 cycle Detroit diesels had a roots type blower, in fact the early hot rodders adapted blowers from 6-71 detroits.

Need help deciding on 3.55 or 4.10 rear axle ratio

I am trading in my 2017 F350DRW with a 3.55 rear axle ratio and looking to purchase a 2019 F350DRW with a 4.10 rear axle ratio. I pull a 16000 lb 5th wheel and tow only 30% of the time. Worried about the gas mileage drop when not towing. Has anyone experienced the same scenario?

I went from a 2014 F350 with 3.55 gears to a 2019 F450 with 4.30 gears. I have not noticed a big difference in fuel mileage but the truck is to new to have much data. Engine speed only went up by about 200. If I remember correctly the F350 turned about 1800 at 65mph; the F450 turns 2000 at 65mph.

GM changed to Denso in 2017 model on the L5P duramax.

Found this quote from Drivingline.com “For the first time in this engine’s production run, the injection pump is supported by a lift pump (an electric, in-tank unit), the common-rail system is supplied by Denso (not Bosch) and boost is provided courtesy of a BorgWarner turbocharger (rather than a Garrett).”
