Contaminated Brakes
As a lot of you know we picked up our new two days before we left for Lake Siskiyou and then on to Seven Feathers. The entire time we were gone I kept saying that the brakes did not feel right. So on the way home I stopped by the dealer and had them check them out. They found three of the brake pads contaminated with grease, and this is the way it came from the factory. They changed them all out with new backing plate assemblies and new seals. Having an exhaust brake I didn't use the brakes on big hills so it wasn't that bad, but I just wanted to let you know how it came from the factory and to make you aware of one more thing to watch for if you buy a new rig. We got home from Seven Feathers yesterday and are heading out for the Midwest tomorrow morning to pick up the grand kids and take them camping. See you all down the road.

That happened to mine also. It was just one wheel. Noticed grease around the outside of the backing plate when I was checking the tires.

Glad you found the problem, shows you how great it is to have an exhaust brake.
Enjoy the new Rig.

It's hard to believe that the bearings would come from the factory that way. I have seen many SOB's with that problem, but was done after delivery by a dealer or owner.
But in todays ways anything is possible.
Glad you got it taken care of!
Have a safe trip

This happened to me as well. Delivered from the factory with over lubed axles. 3 out of 4 brakes were contaminated and wheels turned freely when brakes were fully applied. Dexter stepped up to the plate and authorized replacement of backing plates, brake shoes and all associated required parts. Camping World of Fountain Colorado (just off I-25) did a great job on the repair. RV brakes great now. No problems.

It sounds like if you buy a new rig you had better check out the brake pads because we had three of them contaminated. I don't know what their problem is, but they had better get a handle on it before someone has an accident.

I'm thinking that if a dealer cared about his customer that is buying a new rig, they would ensure that the brakes work before sending the customer down the road (maybe include it as part of their PDI?)

Agree, dealer has some skin in this...and should share in the disappointment with the factory. Net is as said they own dealer prep.

This happened to me as well.
But something that was overlooked by Keystone, Dexter and the RV dealer was the one brake that did work got over heated and the drum did not get changed out. Then we lost a rim/tire at 60 MPH due to the studs in the drum braking off. Just something you may want to look at.

Same here within the first 6 months of ownership, Dexter provided new everything and our dealer installed quality seals.
If you have been to the the Montana factory you know the axle assembly including the brakes come in the first station completly assembled from the axles vendor. Montana does nothing but assemble them so the fault is with the axle vendor.
