Power at the post, none in the Montana

Just pulled into our spot in San Antonio and plunged in. No AC Power in the camper. The post is hot, power getting to the end of the power cable reel connection, no power at the 50 amp breakers inside the RV.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Do you have an EMS that is detecting a problem with your power? Most EMSs have a way to bypass if you are sure your power is clean.

I use a progressive Industries surge protector on the incoming power. Is that what you’re asking about?
Where would I find an EMS?

The Progressive is an Electrical Management System (EMS). Is it a portable unit or hardwired into the electrical system?

Both have displays on what they are seeing. Are there any faults (En codes)?

Do you have a generator prep package with a transfer switch? It would really help with this guessing game if you said what rig, model and year you are working with.

Bob,

His profile shows a 2020 3761RL. He talked about a reel which indicates it is likely a Legacy.

Relaxin,

You should be able to bypass/disable the EMS to determine if that is blocking your power.

try flipping all the breakers off and then on again
Sometimes a breaker will be tripped but not visibly tripped

My EMS is portable. I’ve tried to connect without the EMS No change.
Do the gen prep packages come with a transfer switch even without a generator?

Is your Progressive a portable unit (i.e. plugged in at the power pole) or a builtin unit?

If a portable then the problem is further downstream.

If builtin it is after the transfer switch (AFAIK) and if shows the normal display of voltage, amps, etc., then it is getting power. Output of the Progressive should go to the two main 50 amp CBs in the power panel. Is there power there?

OK given a portable EMS, the problem is elsewhere.

Yes, the gen prep package includes a transfer switch.

You will want to find the transfer switch to see if it has power. I *THINK* it is located behind the pass through compartment wall these days. Check to see if power is getting to it. If it isn't getting power then the problem is either the cord or the plug in the back. If you have a cord reel then I am no help as I haven't seen one before. But the problem is likely the cord connection or the cord itself.

I'm of the opinion it's your power cord. If you do not have another cord, perhaps you could talk to one of your fellow camping neighbors and see if they would be willing to unplug for a few minutes and you could check with their cord. If their cord works OK, give it back to them, give them a beer and a big Thank-you, and then hit the closest RV parts store in your location and get a new cord. If it were me, that's what I'd do.

I see you have power at the end of the cord reel inside the compartment so cord is good as well as the EMS. I agree it must be the transfer switch. Is there a separate breaker box in the area of the cord reel? Information I have says the transfer switch is by the reel and has lights on it.

I still wonder if his rig has an internal EMS. At least for awhile the Legacy models came with an internal EMS.

My EMS is external so I don't have experience with an internal one but I thought there was a way to turn off the internal EMS.

If in fact the Legacy comes with an external EMS then the transfer switch is the next to check. Or call a mobile tech.

Thanks for the feedback! I will dive back into the trouble shooting in the morning. Now a good cool nights sleep at a nearby hotel!

Quick question... there is a small black box positioned next to the inverter mounted upside down in the pass through storage area. Is that the transfer switch?

if you have a generator prep package it could be the transfer switch, mine just went bad, and they sent a replacement. the transfer switch on mine is behind the bulkhead in the bay wall. i had to remove the panel then you will see the progressive surge transfer switch. if you are handy, to be safe remove shore power then remove the front cover on the transfer switch, then plug shore back in and test on the feed side of transfer switch, 120 to n on each leg is normal, if is hot there check on load side for normalcy. mine was not hot, the relay that electrically pulls the disconnect would not pull the relay in. i pushed the relay manually in and it did connect. progressive sent me a new one under warranty.
if you are not handy and are not able to safely work with electric, best to get someone that is to be safe.
good luck be safe
