Washers for Your Trailer

I am trying to decide if I want a front load or a high-efficiency (HE) top-loader washer. My concern is about leaving the door open for the washer to dry out in between washes. The washer in our 3400RL would fit into the closet by the front door therefore restricting the opening of the door on a front loader.

So the questions are:
1. Do you leave your washer door open on your front load washer to dry it out to prevent it from smelling?
2. What brand are you using?

Ours is the Splendide combo. Since it also dries, residual moisture is essentially eliminated except maybe around the door gasket. But it is also in a corner in the bedroom so we can leave the door slightly open and not be a problem either.

We have had a Splendide washer, front loading and a matching Dryer, in this rig and our past SOB. DW usually does a load in the evening before traveling and just leaves the door open overnight, never seems to be a problem

The problem I would have is getting a regular size washer in the camper. I’m limited to one NO more than 24 inches because my interior door is actually a little less than that.

We have a Splendide combo and never leave the door open or even worry about letting the washer dry out and have no problems after 4 years of use.

Ours is vented though so maybe that makes a difference.

I also have a Splendide combo. Found a one year old one that was hardly used locally on Craig's List. Brought it home, stripped it down and cleaned/sanitized it and it works super great. We use it pretty much daily when traveling. Installed myself including a chrome vent on the outside. Looks sharp! One thing the DW likes about it is the fact that after showering, just pop 'em in the Splendide and go about our business. Come back to the HC and they're nice and dry and warm. No more hanging wet towels in the bathroom to dry on their own. Hope this helps.

We found an Haier 1000 vent-less combo on Craigslist. Works well, but small capacity and drying takes a while. Just remember it's another thing you have to winterize.

Probably when it goes on the dry cycle it drys everything out.

I was thinking of putting in a washer only as we primarily drycamp and want the unit to work off of my inverter. I think the dryer would take lots of amps and I don't want to run my Honda200i to do laundry.

With the Combo Unit you do not have to go into the Dry stage. We used a Vented Combo for about 5 years and only used the Dryer stage a few times, like when it was raining and couldn't air dry the clothes.
