Norcold Reset
Today we arrived at our campsite for 10 days. Slight rain on way down. All set up Norcold refrig dead! Lovely... Check all fuses, battery, breakers. Nothing. Goggled MOC search, chieflawdawg thread came up about reseting switch with magnet if light on switch is on behind refrig. Checked... Lights on. Went to hardware store thinking no way but worth a try. Came back after about 10 swipes of the magnet click, light went out, refrig fired up. Went inside works like a charm! sure would have been nice if Norcold put a switch with a reset button but we are happy happy campers! If u have the 4 Door Norcold buy the magnets you may need them when u least expect it.
And Chieflawdang thanks a million! You saved our vacation!

How big of a magnet is needed and where exactly is this switch? Just want to be prepared if needed.

The switch was put on as a recall, for the 4 door refig. If you open your refrig vent there is a small black box with wires running to it. Ours is at the top and a small red bulb is on the box. Its not suppose to be lighting up. If moister gets in for some reason the switch lights up and shuts down yur refrig. The magnets we got are called "block magnets" made by Percision Craft, 7/8 " x 7/8 " x 3/8 " the no on the magnets N302-315 V7537. If anyone can put a pic on that would help our MOC friends. It took a few pass over for it to work. We at first thought it wasnt happening but dont give up, its takes a few to get the connection.

Glad it worked for y'all. I just put the magnet over the red light and held it there about 20 seconds until I heard the "click" and the light went out. That was about a month ago and we just got back from a 9 day trip to Florida with not problems. The magnets stay in my cabinet now. Just in case...

Not sure if the problem with these recall switches is moisture. We have been in driving downpours and never had the switch operate. The switch is supposed to operate when the boiler temperature reaches a critical temperature, and then needs the reset procedure. After our cooling unit was replaced for the second time in less than six months, I installed the ARPrv protective device, which automatically shuts down the unit way before it reaches a dangerous temperature, allows it to cool down, then restarts it. The theory is, by controlling the temperature, the chances of developing crystals that cause the system to plug up is greatly reduced, and the chance of having over-pressure in the system which can contribute to having a fire, is also way less. I have also read that Mac the Fire Guy uses this device and promotes it's use. The model I installed also has an additional control that operates a separate optional fan or fans to aid in keeping the unit cool. So far, I am very pleased with this device.

My problem occurred during a terrible, blowing rain storm. I am sure that moisture caused it. Too many people on other RV sites have had the same problem when the switch gets wet. Just glad I found out the solution before taking it in for service and paying them to reset it.

We just returned from a week of camping. Because of the extreme heat and time of travel I ran frig on propane. Once set up I switched to electric. Leaving to come home frig would not run on propane in auto position. It got fl code. Half way home I tried it on lp and still fault code. Not out of propane as stove would lite. Is this a failure the magnet will fix?

The magnet reset will only work if the little red light is on in the recall device. Look in the outside lower cover of the fridge. The recall device is the small black thing that has wires going to it, and has a red diode light on the circuit board in the middle of the opening. Make sure you don't see any yellow stuff that has dripped from the cooling unit. If you see any, shut off the fridge immediately, as the leaking chemicals are highly flammable.

Rohrmann is right. The light has to be on the switch behind the cover on the back of the refig. Our refig was dead... Like no elec. to it. Would not even like up and would not work on elec or propane. Others talked about getting a code on the refrig about the switch. When we took the vent off and the light was on we had high hopes that the magnet would reset it which it did.

When was this recall on the frig. and is this box installed on all 4 door Norcold frig's after the recall?
Guess I need to go outside and check if I have this box installed or not.

Our Montana is a 2012, and the fridge had the recall box on it from the beginning. There is also a sticker on the unit that says, 'Equipped with High Temperature Sensor (HTS) #P-010'. It also goes on to say, any mods to the device can result in property damage, injury, or death. Makes you feel real good about these fridges in these rigs.
