Day/Night shade repair place

Two of the four strings on the big day/night shade behind the recliners just broke, and having no large table or good space in our RV to lay it out and attempt a repair, we want to send it somewhere to have the work done. If anyone knows a place where we could ship the shade for repair, we'd appreciate hearing about it.

I have the pictures of the step-by-step repair process, but again, with no good area to work on that shade (and with two dogs who wouldn't let us work on the floor without their help), we don't feel like we can do the repair ourselves.

Carolyn: I believe MOC members Brad and Suzanne (subra1228) rebuild blinds for people. You should email them. They may even have a web site with info. I know they have mentioned it here a couple of times.

I love the MOC forum and MOC members! Thanks for the names of people and places who repair the day/night shades. I thought I wanted an iPad for Christmas. I was wrong. I'd be happy just to have that dang shade repaired.

We just got done doing 3 shades and one of them was the big back window. All was done on a picnic table. Very simple if you follow the directions. After the first one they are very easy. Get the kit that Charlie is talking about and go for it.

Carolyn, I put new string in ours on the kitchen counter in our 3400. You do this with the shades compressed so don't really need very much room. I recently did the large shade on that big rear window. I get the string for free from the shade manufacturer. Just call them with the dimensions of the window opening itself, how many strings in the shade, and the color of string. Ours are alabaster (the light colored string). So far I've replaced the string in nine shades and they've always sent me the string free of charge.

One thing I recommend is buy a long needle to help thread it through the holes. I bought a needle "kit" from Walmart with the longest needle I could find. The eye must be large enough to thread the string through. My needle is a tight fit for the string but do-able. If no needle, come up with something you can attach the string to and push it through the holes. For the smaller shades you probably don't need a needle.

Thanks, Steve, for the tips on restringing. We just don't feel like it's something we can do without endangering our marriage, so we're going to send the shade to Brad and Suzanne, the MOC members who are "professional restringers." Carl Youngren gave us their contact info, and we think their price for the job is very fair. But, I'm keeping your tips handy in case we ever need to restring a smaller shade, because that job might be something we could tackle on our own.

If you change your mind, OntMont posted a link to his pictures with explanations. It's really not difficult. I did it all by myself although Vicki was there to help if needed. I think in a couple of cases I did have her put rubber bands around one end while I held the other end to hold it tightly together because I was working with that very long/wide shade. If you decide you want that link to OntMont's instructions, it's somewhere in the links at the Home link above. Or email me and I'll email it to you. Same for anyone else who wants it.

Shoot, I decided to just go ahead and put my copy of John's information out on our website. Here's the link for anyone who wants it. Just click on each picture for a larger version. John has it down, step by step. Really made it easy for me.

Well, I was finally faced with restringing one of our blinds. Did as I recommended above and it was a cake walk. Took about 30 minutes start to finish. Will do again if necessary.
