Step welds broken
Took a flying trip down the steps a couple of days ago. Nothing slick and couldn't figure out why--knew something wasn't right. The welds on the left side at the top were giving away and allowed the steps to slant a bit. Looks like more poor welding by Lippert to me. Anyway, check the welds every so often and save yourself a bruised butt.

Got the steps welded today and the guy couldn't believe how skimpy the metal was. Actually the welds didn't break, but the metal tore.

I have crawled under and inspected my steps a couple times per year because mine hang down close to the ground when entering service stations and other entrances. I have more than once rubbed them on th ground or concrete when entering or leaving service stations and could very easily be weakening the welds or even tearing the metal around it by placing a lot of undue stress on the steps that they were not designed to do. No fault of Lippert or Montana, just not entering and exiting the driveways at the right angles.

We are good...Solid steps that do not fall down in transit and I have not yet caught them on something. In 5 campers we are 4 for 5 in bending steps.

I made a set of wooden steps that break down (good thing). I set them up for longer stays. I weight 300 lbs and have a bad knee so I like the solid feeling when I step out.
