New Tires and bad rims

We just put 4 new tires on the 3400. Won't say what brand because there will be 10 posts that say that brand is the best there is, we have them, love them and would not be without them and 10 post that will say they are the worst brand out there and we would never buy them,,,so it will be my secret. My tire shop guy is a friend, tows a big boat and camper and got me what he thought was the best tire for my needs and he could have ordered any brand and price. BUTTT... We attempted to balance the tires and could not do it as ALL the rims were OUT OF ROUND.. they had never seen anything so bad and will be happy to so document. Sooo Ole Rich is on a Mission.. To put such a inferior product on a high dollar camper is inexcusable.I will first talk to Keystone to get their response and since my 1 year warranty is up I fully expect to be brushed off..Then A document to the NTSB outlining a safety hazard as on the rim that was out of round the worst ..the tire was badly worn.I hate to be negative..butttt///

I assume you tried to balance them and on the balancer they are out of round. You need to bolt them on a plate that goes on the balancer. They use the bolts to center the rim up. You do have 16" rims. Same as I do on our 3475. If thats the case you need to add the powder packet in each tire to balance them. I took the tires that came with the unit and put on Goodyear's before we even took delivery and thats when we found out about the rims and the way they are centered. Most semi's balance there tires this way. We had to change the valve stems so the powder dose not let them leak. Have been very happy with ours. There has been threads on this before so if you want do a search on this and good luck on the search on this.

How did they mount the wheels onto the balancer? If they used a cone that could be the problem. Those wheels are not centered on the drums by that center hole like a car but by the studs and nuts. You need an adapter with studs on it for the balancer

Holy Cow... I forgot all about that . I will go up and check to see if they did that.. I think I doubt that they did...My fault.

Well this is one of those "do I ever feel stupid moments" They person that balanced the tires did not use the adapter.I should have had a suspicion when all 4 tires would not balance and the thing is I knew about the adapter for balancing RV tires. Had a really bad senior Moment and my fault. Oh well I do not have a mission with Keystone.....Rats.This is a good place for the I am only a people and people make mistakes excuse..

When they did mine ,they balanced two tires before they figured out that they had to go by the bolt holes. I have no weights on my rims,just the powder inside.They balance right out when you start moving.

Yes, thank you for posting this thread as we weren't aware that you had to go by the bolt holes to balance the tires either. Thanks again.

There was a thread on how to balance Rv tires a long time ago. I think one of our tires guys explained the difference. I saved that post then promptly forgot about it when installing new tires. I was watching when they tried to balance using the car method and it would not even register on the balancer.

Been there Rich, with our first Montana. Keystone even sent us four new rims before we discovered these have to be balanced using a lug-centric adapter.
