Oven Tiles
This topic has been posted several times, but I cannot find it in the forum search tool...so some help would be appreciated.
I remember reading where someone had put unglazed tiles in the oven to hold the heat and make baking better in these ovens.
How many tiles
What size tiles
Where in the oven do they go
Thanks

This is still on my Christmas list. They go in the bottom and you can buy pizza stones. I found them at Amazon.com but I'm sure any good kitchen store has them. There is a rectangle one that just fits the Monty oven.
Happy trails....................

Sue, I do remember the discussion about the pizza stones, but somewhere someone mentioned using the unglazed (cheap) tiles that you can buy at the hardware store. I just can't find the post where they say how many of them to use, and what size to buy.
Thanks for remembering! Wonder why the search doesn't work??

Do you think the tiles would be as safe as the stones? I would worry about something in the tiles creating a fume that might be harmful to the food.
Happy trails.....................

Pampered Chef also has some great stoneware products. They are a home based business that sells high quality kitchen products, kinda like Tupperware, or Mary Kay. I have a stone quiche pan that I am using in the oven. It works great to hold in heat and help the biscuits and cookies cook evenly. I set the cookie sheet directly on top of the stoneware pan. Before, the bottom of everything was burnt!
As for the tiles, I am with Sue regarding the safety issue. Be careful about those tiles "offgasing" dangerous fumes.

I'm with everyone else, there's no telling what is in those tiles. Our pizza stone only cost $7 and it's all in one piece

Ok, I'm convinced. The pizza stone sounds like the perfect solution.
Does the pizza stone go on the bottom of the oven or does it go on the tray below the shelf?? I measured the space below the rack and it is ~11" x 11" and so is the bottom of the recessed part of the oven at the bottom.
Where can I buy one of these stones? Wall-Mart? ...and how big is the stone you are using? The pampered chef purchase I can't do right away, we are going to be on the road next week, so I would like to purchase this before we get on the road.
Thanks for your help.[

Our stone is 13" in diameter and my wife puts on the wire shelf and whatever she is cooking right on top of that. We found our at a kitchenware store in an outlet mall.

Any kitchen store should have one. I don't know about wal-mart, but I checked target on-line, they did have it. Stone and the wire rack will set you back 14.99 at Target online. Says ships in 1-2 days.
Good luck!

Didn't take the time to read all posts here -- but I use a 12x12 quarry tile (or mexican paver). Cost was zero because the tile store just gave it to me. Had I bought it, cost would have been about $1.50. You want the unglazed tile --. There's nothing in this tile that's going to harm you when heated -- but if you're concerned, be sure to check things out for yourself. This type of tile is made from the same type of stuff that those clay bakers available in kitchen stores are made from.

Forgot to add...I read the posts from a very long time ago. I remember people using either 12x12 or (4) 6x6 or something like that. The 12x12 works great for me.

This is the first time I have read about using the pizza stones or tiles. Can you tell me what the benefit is by using the stones? Is this just for baking biscuits and breads, or do you use it when you are cooking things like meatloaf, chicken etc?
