Bees...

Anyone ever have bees in their rvs? Our neighbor has them and will have to have an exterminator because they are not sure how long they have had them but now finding them inside the unit. I think I will do a spot check for openings. Bees we don't want for sure cause the wife will not stand one foot in the unit. thanks

Frank,
Many folks get bee's coming into their coach by the furnace vents. Also have seen them come in through the fridge vents, I am going to have the furnace vent covers installed this spring. Another place you might want to check out is the roof vents, if you have the MaxAir vent covers they can nest in there as well.

Last fall when I was winterizing my Mountaineer I removed the vent for the fridge for general cleaning. There I found a bit of a mess such as spider webs and so on. So I took some extra screening material, left over from a screen door repair, cut a piece to size and installed it inside the vent so now nothing can get in there.
Now after reading about you bee problem I think I will leave that screen in there permanently.

We had an infestation in the AC unit. Two big hives. We purchased a can of wasp spray that allows you to shoot it from 15-20' away and it turns to a foam. Applied just as getting dark as all the bees are back in the nests and settling. A couple applications and removal of the AC hood to get rid of the pieces of hive that I couldn't spray away with a hose. We use an AC cover now.

Another way to get rid of most of them from the AC unit is a long ride down the highway at 65 mph..

We had wasps building a nest in the area of the refrigerator. We removed the frig vent and hot-glued some leftover screening on the vent. No more wasps. We also had birds nesting inside the hitch. Once they left, we also hot-glued the opening to the hitch with screening. None in the A/C yet, but that's on my list to do this spring.

Becareful spraying this wasp spray or something similar to your A/C or roof vents, these are made of petroleum and can damage you rubber roof. Just a word of caution.

Thanks Bill, Didn't know this. At the time I did this I also washed down the roof with roof cleaner so hopefully no damage was done. The situation was pretty drastic as you couldn't get near the rig the wasps were so bad.
