TrailAir King Pin Box
Has anyone changed from their Moryde standard box to a Trailair King Pin Box?
After a long bumpy trip out west I am now considering this to smooth out the potholes for the front of the Montana. At over $1,000 without install I didn't want to do it unless it made a lot of difference.

Just an alternative thought as I don't have your answer ... I stuck with the MorRyde and put Firestone air bags on the rear of my truck. I was not so much for leveling it out, but to cushion the ride a bit. Reading 35 - 38 psi with the fiver hooked to the truck, it works well enough for me. Cost was under 25% of what you're quoting for the new pinbox.

I installed a 5th Airborne air ride pin box on mine a number of years ago. (just had a standard pin box) Helped smooth the ride as it cushions the trailer from the truck. In the rear view mirror I can see the trailer moving up and down somewhat independent of the truck over bumps and dips.
And while I had very little chucking to begin with, the 5th Airborne eliminated almost all of what there was.
Install was easy. An extra pair of hands would have helped, but I did it by myself with little problem. I like the 5th Airborne as the air bag and shock is enclosed inside the pin box rather than out in the open.

I have had the bags for awhile. They do help cushion the ride. I run with about 40-45 pounds to keep everything level. Just trying to get a consensus on TrailAir Pin Boxes, or similar air boxes before deciding to spend that much.

I had the tri glide pin box from lippert. Not impressed, after putting it on in goshin it just about beat me to death coming home. I will be putting my mor ride back on next week. To be fair, I have the trailer saver air hitch in truck. The two may be working against easy other. If you are interested I may sell you mine.

We have the TrailAir TriGlide. We paid $1,150 that included shipping, and I did the install. We traded RVs and the trade agreement was for the shifting TrailAir to the new Monti. We can only compare the steel pen box ride to the TrailAir from actual use which was a much smother ride for the trailer and the truck/people. We do notice that several large/heavy 5th wheel trailer brands come with the TrailAir TriGlide as standard equipment.

I have the 5th Airborne pin box and I like it, although it will make the 5er porpoise a little in road conditions that have bumps at some specific interval.
You can adjust the air pressure of the air bag to change the "feel" of the motion to suit your preferences. It does significantly reduce the pounding that the frame at the front of the rig would see with a pin box that does not have any vertical motion, like a solid pin box or the MOR/ryde which only has horizontal cushioning.
The 5th Airborne does not have any direct lateral cushioning, but it converts forward and rearward forces into vertical motion, which absorbs those to negate chucking felt in the tow vehicle.
I feel that the vertical pounding that the frame sees with a solid or MOR/ryde pin box is a big contributor to frame flex and weld failures, along with sub-standard weld penetration that occasionally occurs in the fabrication of the frames.
I think that I got my 5th Airborne from Tweety's RV

This is a interesting question after towing our 37&1/4 out to Colorado and back to n. Calif I to wondered about changing the pin box. Still undecided on this has anyone tried air bags on the 5'er I'm pretty handy with a welder just don't have the info to go on.

I vote for the 5th airborne, Put mine on shortly after getting the Monty as the DW hate the ride. Made a world of difference. And as stated earlier, the shock and air bag are hidden from the weather. And I think the cost is less.

I installed a fifth airborne on my 2011 , and was pleased with it when compared to the ride with the standard Lippert box. However, on my new rig, I have the Mor-ryde pin box. Don't know if its the Mor-ryde or the new suspension, but this trailer rides much, much better than my 2011 using the same truck and hitch.

JandC: When I was having my Lippert system installed at the Boonville RV Center in Boonville, MO, I heard them discussing this pin box with another customer. Another customer that was in there spoke up and said he really liked his. IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN......... I believe I heard the desk lady say they guarantee you will like it if you buy from them. If you don't like it, they put your original back on and give you the money back. You might call and make sure I heard right. Kinda hard to go wrong with that plan!!!!!

If they are competitive with their pricing that may be worth the trip. Sure would take the risk out of making the change.

I did not hear their price for the Trail Air. They were the best price around for the Lippert installation. Here is their website: http://www.boonvillervservicecenter.com/
