Can't say that anymore RE--Door lock

After a nice day out we returned to the Montana put the Key in the dead bolt and it would only go half way. OH! NO! I said what are we going to do? Well I had to crawl up the laundry door and let me tell you that was not easy for me. lol I could not open it from the inside either. So walt came inside and forced the whole thing out,he worked on it and now has it back in where the top lock will work but we will be making the 100 mile trip into Las Vegas soon and replace the whole thing. Does anyone know if Camping World has these?? I looked on their web site and saw one that said for a Motor Home are they the same?? So now I can not say I have never been locked out any more.LOL

They probably do but you will have to go to the parts department to get it.

If you can find the manufacturer on the old lock you maybe able to contact them for a new lock. I know someone else did this and got a new lock free.

Happened to me, but differently. In our case, the latching mechanism itself broke. They sent a complete new latching mechanism UPS. It did not, however, include the "lock" part...just the door latch mechanism. Anyhow...they are: Fastec Industrial Corporation, 23348 CR 6, Elkhart, IN. I don't have the phone #, but call Elkhart Info. You will talk to one of two ladies; "Flip" or "Deb" in Customer Service. Give them the info, and, Im sure they will help you get the problem solved.

Hope this helps..

The same thing happened to us in March 2005, also in Las Vegas, ironically enough. Flip with Fastec sent us, via UPS, a new lock and latch set. Unfortunately, she said they were not set up to overnight such things, and it took about a week to get it. I believe that the phone number for Fastec is molded or cast into the latch set itself.

Linda, as Harmon said, the number is inside the latch unit. Take the screws off from the inside. Inside there is a number (for the key) and a phone number.

My trailer now has the same problem. The key will only go in about 3/4 of the way and the deadbolt is locked. I cannot get into the trailer since I don't have a laundry opening in the Mounty. My trailer is parked with the slides out and I cannot get the door open. Does anyone have an idea on how to get in? I may have to call a locksmith to get the door open. I will not need the trailer for a couple of weeks but would like to fix it quickly.

Our lock did the same thing when we first got it and we used the laundry chute too! We just called our dealer, they sent us a whole new lock, Dan installed it, and we sent the broken one back. Haven't had any problem since.

dannyl: We called Good Sam ERS, which sent a locksmith out. She was able to get the door unlocked with her lock pick set.

Danny - I know it doesn't help your current situation and I do hope you were able to get the door open, but if you need any parts for the lock, here is the source:

Fastec Industrial Corp (FIC) in Elkhart (574) 262-2505. The number is stamped on the key as far as the tumbler settings. I just broke a key and ordered new ones through thier friendly staff - they sell direct and same day out with credit card.

Had that key trouble once.

while trying to insert key, I just tapped on the lock molding and was able to get key in all the way. Keep it well lubed now, and has not repeated.

I had a locksmith out and he picked the lock. He suggested using a dry lube spray to keep the lock from sticking.
I will go back to the dealer first chance I get to have it repaired or replaced. For the present I will lock only the door and not the deadbolt.

I called Fastec yesterday and ordered some spare keys. BTW, toll free # is 800-837-2505.
Lady that I talked to said that she recommended spraying some lithium grease in the lock. Said that the mechanism was soft brass and can be damaged by placing wrong key in the lock and/or lack of lube. She said also that something such as WD40 is ok too.
