If you are referring to the gear rack and gears on a shaft under the larger slides ... that assembly is there to hold the slide square while extending or retracting ... a hydraulic ram does the pushing and pulling. That mechanism has been around since the early to mid 2000's. If you are referring to the zigzag aluminum plates on the top and bottom of the slide walls, that's a Schwintek slide system and has been around the last 6-7+ years I'm guessing.

Just to put a picture with dieselguy’s description -
First pic shows the hydraulic ram (shiny chrome thing) and you can see the gears engaging the gear teeth on the slide tube.
Second pic shows the gear rail for a Schwintek slide with hydraulic slides in the background.

I believe it was the 2022 model year. You should be able to Google it. There are YouTube videos that talk about the change for High Country.

Well we now have it narrowed down between 20 and 22 year models. Maybe we can get a 21 model MHC owner to chime in...

I'm going to really have to be convinced that either cable, electric rack and pinion, or the dreaded Schwintek are better than the hydraulic systems of yesteryear like my '04 3295RK. All 3 slides are hydraulic.
Why did they quit them? Weight? Expense? Simplicity? All of the above?
The only issue I have is a leaking pump to tank seal I need to address and the BR slide creeping out when there is wide temp swings in ND winters.

Montana's still use hydraulic slides according to their website. HC uses electric slides.
