Bedroom Slide conundrum

This one has me stumped…

King bed slide seems to work hard when bringing the slide in. The last 3 ft or so you can hear the motor labouring and at the same time the caster wheels are pushing hard into the floor causing the floor to bubble ahead of the wheels.

My first thought was that perhaps there was too much weight in the storage below the bed, removed all items and still had the same result.

Could the bed be mounted on a slight downward angle causing it to press in towards the floor when travelling inward? Then why would the motor only sound laboured for the last few feet?

Could it be that the floor is uneven and the bed is “Climbing up hill”? Doesn’t appear to be, all looks flat and level.

Any suggestions out there? I have this bad feeling that one of these days the labouring motor is going to quit or break a cable / pulley.

Is your slide a cable slide or Schwintek? Usually, the Montana's have Schwintek, and the High Country's have cable slides. If a Schwintek slide, it may need lubricated at the gear and gib. Take a look at this Lippert maintenance video...

Josh - I am following this with interest.

Based on the photos you posted in a different thread showing your small frame flex crack (pic below), your bedroom slide is a Schwintek slide mechanism - not a cable slide.
My bedroom slide is laboring and making noise like yours - so hopefully the smart folks here can enlighten us with whatever stomach and solutions to try.

I added extra bed wheels along the bottom of the bed to share the load regarding weight and prevent dents, tearing, wrinkling of the linoleum.

If it has racks top and bottom on both sides it couod be out of timing (the top coming in slightly aheekad of the bottom would push the rollers into the floor). I've no idea how to cix the timing on the Schwintek - I've done it on hydraulic slides. I'm sure there is a youtube video or two...

Do you have a cable slide or a Schwintek slide. If the bed is pushing into the floor it's misaligned from top to bottom.

Our kitchen slide was laboring and making a similar sound.

Turns out we needed a new motor.

Had to call an RV tech during our trip to FLA.

Total cost to repair, labor, tax shy of 400.00

We submitted to GoodSams extended warranty for reimbursement. Turn around time is 60 to 90days for check. Gotta stay on top of them to get money back.

Also since you have a crack in the lower corner if that slide the wall studs are moving a bit,, probably jist enough to further compound your issue

It’s only gonna get worse if you don’t fix

I don't think Josh's is cracked....yet. The 1st picture was pointing out that it's not a cable slide and my picture was showing what a misaligned slide will cause. Sorry to confuse the OP's post.

Thanks for all the great input. My apologies on thinking it was a cable slide.

So thinking the slide was out of alignment (top to bottom) was the most logical explanation, I took some measurements this morning while bringing the slide in at different increments. Too add to the conundrum, the measurement are exact same top and bottom! Although I was dreading having to adjust them if they were out of whack, now I’m still stumped.

Could it be that the bed/storage isn’t mounted correctly and therefore angled into the floor causing the issue?? Thoughts??

This one has me scratching my head…

Are the measurements the same on each side? IOW, could one side be coming in before the other? Do the gears and track at the bottom mesh well?

It's possible that (like mine which is in the shop being completely rebuilt) the gears have jumped or even broke or that the rails were not installed evenly from the factory or a motor is failing or.... Mine is a combination of theses. Are you still under warranty? If so call Keystone.

Sorry to hear!

Can I ask what your first signs were that something was wrong? Did your slide seal/sit flush when retracted? Could you hear grinding on the tracks when in motion? Did you have differing measurements top to bottom / left and right?

The slide never sounded happy. It always labored and creaked and popped. I haven't read the service bulletin yet but I'm told that it's two fold. Metal components substituted with plastic and apparently improper rail installation.

The problem finally got so bad that the slide got stuck. Note: On flat level ground the slide operates ok. Using the levelers on a left side downhill slope it gets really bad. Think about it by raising the left side taking weight off the axels is putting extreme pressure on the frame. This could cause the bedroom slide frame to flex putting pressure on the slide and causing the gears to slip and throw the slide out of square.
