Inverter
I have a 2980 RL and was spending the night at a Wal-Mart and runing on battery power. Nothing else worked but the lights. Isn't my inverter supposed to power something with 120 volts like my TV? I think I am missing the purpose here. Help!!

First question I would have is: Are you sure you have an inverter or is it a converter? If it is a converter, you don't have the capability of making ac power for your appliances.

Hi! I also own a 2980RL. I believe you have your terminology not quite right. Montana's come standard with a CONVERTER around 55 amps. This takes the 120 volts from your power cord and turns it into useable 12VDC and or allows the charging of the batteries. Unless you had an inverter installed as a special option, I believe this may clear up your question. As you found out ... about all that runs dry camping is some of the lights, the water pump, and the furnace. Someone else may jump in here and clear us both up! LOL

Do you really mean "inverter" or "converter". Your Montana, and most other RV's, comes with a converter that changes AC power to DC to charge your batteries and run certain 12 volt equipment in the unit, mostly lights and fans. An inverter does the opposite, it takes 12 volt power from a battery, and changes it to 110v AC. Unless you bought it on the after-market, you almost certainly don't have an inverter, so no, you won't be able to run your TV in the Wal-Mart. It can be done, but can cost quite a bit, depending on the amount and quality of the power you want. I'll leave it at that for now, but if you want to go that route, I'm sure there are others on the Forum who could help you with more technical details. (Or go visit a Camping World Store and ask there).

I also have a 2980RL and have a converter, and does not convert to AC, but an inverter can change 12VDC to 110 VAC and will consume your battery power quickly if running a TV, My 2980 does not have a plug in (cigerate lighter outlet) to run a 12 VDC TV you will have to install that yourself or have a dealer install to run a TV on DC voltage.

On our 3400 we have a cigarette lighter type connection in the bedroom at the television hookup to use 12 volt stuff. Our other units had one in the kitchen area also.
Happy trails.....................

yha then didn't give me one of those! Because I sure would have liked to run our DC TV in the bedroom.
