Rear Storage - Slide out Tray Headwall

Here's a mod for those with the rear storage tray. After many times of having to partially empty and crawl into the storage tray in the back of the 3790RD to recover items that fall in front of the tray when loading, I decided it was time to fabricate a lightweight wall to keep things in check. I used a few scrap pieces of 1" angle and tube along with some hog wire fencing. I also fixed up the sidewall panels that pulled from the studs. Some items dragged the wall at the rear vertical seam and pulled it away. I added some screws to secure them panels to the aluminum studs. Those 3/4" brad nails just don't stay in place. Now I understand why they got rid of the walls in the 2020 models between the side hatch and the rear storage.

Nice upgrade! I have had the same issue with stuff falling in our 3791RD. And just noticed the side walls coming loose as well. Will have to steal your idea.

You mention things dragging along the side wall. Why not build the same fenced wall for the sides?

I wasn't going to integrate a side fence in phase one, but I'm still on the fence about how I want to fab it up. I don't want to lose any width. There's 3-4 inches on each side of the tray that would be lost if I built a side fence straight up off the tray lips. I'm thinking of doing an offset to get within an inch of the wall skin. I'd only do this for 4-5 feet of the tray length since I don't want to prevent side access when the tray is extended.

Sounds like you'll soon be doing it. Great idea using an offset

This is a great idea! I have thought of constructing clothes rack for hanging off season shirts, jackets and pants. Plan to use see thru clothes bags rather than tubs. We full-time with my work.

had the same problem, so I just took the tray out got to be a pain to crawl in and over stuff to disloge what was holding things up. Now I just leave a path down the middle and bungee cord stuff secure to the sides. saved 200 lbs form behind the axle to.

Our side walls came loose and being under warranty, it was fixed right. No more tiny brads

How about making your side fences hinged so they can fold down(outward) for full tray access ?

We noticed the same issue with the side wall brads coming loose. I purchased a 1/2 Lb of screws to fix it but will not get to it for a few weeks. We only put big bulky stuff at the front so have not experienced the "falling over front lip" issue. Try to put heavy things on the right side to balance out the weight of the reefer side (port) of the kitchen.
