Are you sure it has the engine heater? I spent 30 minutes looking for it on our 2005 Dodge with no luck. I called to find out where it was and was told it was an option and only needed if you were in extremely cold weather. Our 2014 doesn't have one. I missed it until we moved to FL. I would plug my 1996 F350 in when it was below 40 in AR, because I loved getting in a truck that was immediately warm on a cold morning.

From what i was told, All Cummins have the block heater already installed from the factory and if you get the option all the dealer has to do is add the cord.

I live in Minnesota and I leave my block heater plugged in all the time from about 25 degrees down. As far as diesel additive 911 is for emergency use for gelled fuel. If you do not want to to add additives manually all the time you can buy #1 diesel fuel it will cost more but will run better and also help the engine start on cold mornings. You might need to go to a truck stop to find the fuel

I have a 2013 Ram 3500 6.7L, live in Maine and I have never plugged mine in and it starts fine every time.

Most the time the engine will start when the temperatures are above zero but when it is below zero they won't start. My work truck with the International engine in it won't start either just to cold with out it being plugged in. Both my trucks are outside all winter long. I have found that it just not piece of mind knowing they will start . It is a lot easier on the engine knowing that the oil will flow to all the vital parts easier.

You can get a cold weather kit from dodge/Mopar that consists of a cold front blanket for the radiator and two electrical battery blankets allwired into the block heater cord.

Have had CTD trucks since 2001. They all have the grid heater that makes it dangerous to start the truck with ether after running it out of fuel . Don't ask how I know that. Current truck is 2016 3500 CTD and have never plugged it or the older trucks in. We are in Arizona but at 4500 ft elevation so it gets cold here.

Been driving diesels since 2006. Live in northeast Ohio. Never plugged one in. Had some wicked below zero temps a few years back. The engine was fine but the temps killed my batteries.
If I lived in Alaska I would definitely plug in.

My 2016 RAM starts no mater the temp. It only gets to about 15 to 20 here. I use the remote start so the seats and wheel are warm when I get in.

If you have a exhaust brake you can turn it on to help the engine warm up sooner and I've seen some put a cardboard cutout in front of the radiator to make the engine and heater a bit warmer in cold weather!
