removing old 27" TV

Just picked up an LED flat screen for the 2006 3500RL. Wondered if anyone had any experience removing the old 27" beast that exists above the fireplace?

Try this thread, I'm not familiar with your model, but there are some ideas here that might help: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ms=flat,screen

You can't go wrong doing something the way Ozz does. Ozz just frequently has more guts, and knowledge, than the rest of us which allows him to take a chain saw to the wall of his rig and put in an extra window and stuff like that.

Just watch out when you remove that 27" one! Those suckers are extremely heavy and very awkward to handle and get out! It should be a two person job. Luckily I had a counter to set mine on when I removed it or it would have gotten dropped on the floor! Good luck and enjoy that new LED!

Hey, you have the same year, make and model Montana as me. I had to remove the fireplace. Remove four small covers on either side of the fireplace frame. Then remove four screws and the decorative boards and then you can slide the fireplace out. Do not forget to unplug the fireplace. This then allows you to access the screw that is up and behind the front framing that holds the tv in place. Finally, slide out that heavy TV. I placed an ottoman right below to make it easier to stage the removal. Don't forget to unplug the TV and its cables. You may need new cables for the new TV, too.

One of the difficulties of removing the 27" tube TV is disposal. We gave our old tube to our daughter so that the grandkids could use it for video gaming and not tie up their main big screen with that activity.

You just can't toss these out with the garbage anymore. In California, they are considered e-waste and must be disposed of properly. In my community, there's a couple of "recycling centers" for stuff like this. I can't imagine the difficulties with some of you who live more remote.

In the meantime, we are loving our new 40" flatscreen. It is so big I had to build extra bracing and framing and it's mounted on a reciprocating arm. I have to remove it when traveling since it moves around too much, then the screen is placed on our bed during transit. One of these days, I will devise some straps and brackets to keep it in place and eliminate movement when enroute. A smaller screen would have solved the problem, but we do love that huge picture.

We live in Virginia. The trash truck will pick our old Tv s and computers and the like up. Difference in states.

Our local Best Buy will take old TVs (up to 27" I think) and many other electronics and rechargeable batteries for recycle. That's where I dispose of most of my stuff.

If aliens ever landed near our trash pit back on the farm, they'd swear they'd discovered a time capsule. Mom and Dad's old RCA console TV stares back at me whenever I drop by ... hog skeleton or two ... exercise machine that froze up from neglect ... and maybe even an Etch A Sketch. Like warned ... those old tube TVs are HEAVY. It took two of us to get it out of my 05 2980RL.

Haven't had time to pull it out yet. Been trying to set up the new flatscreen with a new home theatre receiver, blu-ray player and Dish satellite receiver. It's sitting on the desk top for now. Looks like the stock sub woofer won't work with the new receiver and I have to figure out how to feed the dish cable to the dish receiver. Does anyone know how to remove the antenna amplifier from the coax line that factory feeds the tv. My rig will never get over-the-air broadcasts being up in the remote mountains so the dish will be all I will use.

Anyone have any pictures of the completed TV conversions? Looks like the existing cut out will be too tall for my 39" flatscreen.

You'll get another MPG when you get that 27" beast out of there.

If your 2006 3500RL is like my 2007 3075RL, there should be no reason to remove the antenna amplifier to connect up your satellite. On my 2007 I have a single external coax connection. There is a coax cable from the outside connection to a dual coax wall plate in a cabinet beneath the TV. There is a short coax jumper cable across the two connectors on the wall plate. By removing the short jumper cable, I can connect another coax cable from that wall plate to my sat box. No mods at all except removing the jumper. And if I am ever in an RV park with cable I can just reinstall that jumper. Antenna wiring is not affected at all.

Don't know what your TV mounting looks like, but here is my before and after from a 27" to a 32".

I took out my old tube tv and replace it with a led. Now I need to find a mount for the tv that is solid enough to control bounce. I made a shelf to sit it on for now. I just remove it and put it on the bed when traveling. I have a 03 3280 RL. It sits in the corner so not much room.

just getting ready to remove the tv in our 2007 3400RL Montana. I can not see any screws holding the tv in place when looking at the bottom of the shelf! What am I going to gain by taking the fireplace out if there are no screws to remove? Ernie Brown

My 2007 3075RL and a friend’s 2008 3295RK had the TVs mounted to a metal “sled” for lack of a better word. It was a flat metal plate with a spring catch on the rear. There was a flat metal plate under it that was screwed to the cabinet. The sled slid into that metal plate and the spring catch latched to the rear. Hopefully that makes sense.

In any event, the only way to get the TV out was to press down on the catch and slide the TV out. Mine backed up to the wall of the toilet room. In there, there was a square plastic plate on the all covering an opening I could reach thru and reach the catch. On his there was a similar covered opening on a side wall of the TV cabinet he could reach thru and reach the catch. Look for something similar.

See before and after pics above.

The screws through the bottom of the TV are hidden by the fireplace. You have to remove the fireplace to find them. To verify the existence of the screws, try sliding a hacksaw blade under the TV and above its shelf. They are there!

Don't forget the one they ran into the right hand side of the cabinet. It is under the wooden plug in the cabinet.

.. .
I don’t know how the 2007 3400RL was done, but on mine and my friends that had the metal “sleds” I described above, the screws went from the top down holding the sled base to the cabinet meaning they would not be visible from below. Don’t know how many models of that era they did that but it was on my 2007 3075RL and his 2008 3295RK. Wish I had taken a picture of it.
