Shades #@&&#%

Just purchased a 2020 Montana 3121 RL and have replaced at least three shades already, although covered under warranty, it is still a pain in the ___! Has anyone else experienced this problem with their shades or is it just my bad luck? Does Keystone monitor this forum or has anyone else complained to Keystone regarding this situation with their shades? I'm sure they don't want everyone complaining about this since it might adversely impact their sales. Maybe they should issue a recall and fix the damn problem. This should NOT be an issue with a high end product like a Montana or has their quality gone down hill over the years?

What exactly is happening to the shades to require replacing?

Knock on wood, we have only had one that has gone bad on us. What we've learned, is that when traveling, we always have the shades in the UP position. That way, there is no weight pulling down on the shades, and/or the mechanism. Since doing that, we haven't had any that have failed...

We have replaced the spring mechanism in several of our shades because they no longer retracted. The new parts are better quality than the originals. We complained to the company that made the shades and they sent us new ones. When we discovered that the new parts were shipped from Goshen, we visited the company and obtained some more as spares. This is while we were at the rally in 2019.

Ours broke as well. They are a bit delicate for rv use. Raising them as stated before during travel will help. I believe people from Keystone view these threads but not for the purpose of improving quality. If those shades are the biggest problem you experience on that new rig consider yourself blessed.

I personally like the shades a lot more than the accordion type blinds in our previous trailers. First of all, they make the interior a lot darker when you need that, and also, I was so tired of replacing strings in the other types of blinds.

Yeah their shades suck. Especially how the shade is attached to the rod that you pull down on. They seem to all come apart. I now know how to reattach them, but really, a $100,000.00 rig has this type of crap is beyond me. It's not like we're trying to reinvent the wheel here. Window shades in this day and age should be bulletproof.

Shades #@&&#%

I have a 2019 3120RL and I've had 3 of the darkening shades replaced and another one is also broke. I always put my shades up when traveling but for me the shade separates from the bottom rod. They were replaced under warranty but the last one that just broke isn't under warranty anymore. I like the shades but there is definitely a quality issue with them

The mechanism that operates the up and down motion of the shade breaks somehow and the shade when pulled down will not stay in the down position. Not good when your bedroom window faces East and allows the morning sun in at 5:30 am!! Also when traveling the shades are pulled down to keep the sun out and when we arrive at our destination the shades are all in the up position. That should not happen either.

Blind problems - fix for me

Howdy... I have a 2014 Montana high country fiver. The blinds in my trailer havent been a problem for Us. We travel with them up all the way all the time and we have had no issues. Our trailer book that came with it, mentioned about putting shades up when traveling. Irv Gates Marshall, Tx.

I see they have changed who they buy shades from. Our 2016 3100RL Legacy came with MCD shades and they are top notch and have a top notch price to go with it. We have used them a lot and never had any issue with them at all. Might be the way to go if you want to spend the money.

I have an 3120RL Legacy. It's my 4th trailer over my lifetime and I've never had a shade problem. BUT, a very long time ago an RV dealer that I befriended gave me this piece of advice. "Never travel with the shades pulled down" which as he explained most people like to do. He explained that the bouncing of the RV is hard on the springs, rollers that spend the whole time trying to retract as the tension bounces on and off and the shades which can get caught on things, tornm etc. when they are in the down position. So I never have done so. When it's time to go I roll the shades up until we get to where I'm going and I've never had any issues.

Can you give us more information on the company that you got them from, I have the Montana 3811 with the big window at the dining room table that won’t retract and maybe the spring is all I need,Also can you or someone tell me how to get the shade down from the mount and install a new spring.

Dealer said not to remove the valance, I did and was piece of cake to remove the shade valance is a problem in getting to the clips. Clip one each side of shade, near the end of shade. One clip slides back.
